As the “everything is cake” trend takes the world by storm, Heather Rios is inviting you to the world where nothing is. This embroidery artist specializes in stitching together incredibly realistic embroidery cakes that look just as tasty as the real thing.

According to her Instagram page, Rios started making her embroidery cakes in 2018. Her creations are as colorful and cheerful as it gets, but the story behind them isn’t as fun and offbeat.

“I started making these colorful embroideries because well…my life was going terribly and I was just trying to cheer myself up by making the most colorful, happy things I could think of,” she explained in an Instagram post.

Rios used her embroidery cakes to cheer herself up, and they now have the same effect on everyone that comes across them. She has taken the concept of food art to a whole new level by creating cakes that look so remarkably realistic that you’ll have to wonder whether they’re actually made of fabric and thread.

The realistic look isn’t the only thing you’ll find appealing about Rios’ creations. She mostly focuses on stitching together funfetti cakes that are bursting with color and have the power to put a smile on your face.

Most embroidery artists craft their amazing creations using thread, but not Olga Prinku. She believes that nature is the best possible thread out there, and her embroidery hoops are decorated with flowers and plants instead.

Prinku is based in North Yorkshire, and she’s a graphic designer by profession. She’s always been passionate about crafting, especially knitting and wreath-making, and her love for flowers-on-tulle embroidery grew out of these hobbies.

“My favorite part of this new craft is the scope to be inventive. I love coming up with new ideas for ways to experiment with the technique or apply it to other kinds of artwork or product,” explains Prinku on her official website.

Prinku went on quite a journey since first trying to poke the stems of flowers through net fabric in 2016. In addition to becoming a true Instagram sensation, with almost 200,000 followers under her belt, she also hosted several exhibitions, collaborated with fashion and homeware brands, and published a book called Dried Flower Embroidery: An introduction to the art of flowers on tulle.

Prinku is also committed to teaching others the secrets of her craft. She sells DIY kits that allow you to replicate her creations, and you can also find tutorials and book workshops on her official website.

There are so many embroidery artists on Instagram right now that you have to do something truly special to make a mark in this competitive corner of the art world. Danielle Clough is doing just that with her one-of-a-kind, tennis racket embroidery.

Clough is based in Cape Town, South Africa and she’s a multi-faceted artist who’s always managing to find new ways to put a twist on traditional art forms. She’s no stranger to creating classic embroidery hoops, but her series of tennis racquet embroidery transformed her into a true Instagram sensation.

In Clough’s own words, her embroidery is colorful and delicate and it celebrates “the joining of the old with the new in a wistful and playful manner that is thoroughly modern in approach, yet nostalgic at heart.” This perfectly describes her tennis racquet embroidery, since she usually utilizes retro pieces and gives them a new life through her art.

Pop culture often serves as Clough’s main source of inspiration, and she created many pieces inspired by famous artists and movie characters. She tends to keep things a little bit more simple when it comes to tennis racquets since they’re not that easy to embroider, and that’s why she usually sticks to nature-inspired themes.

Jellyfish are surrounded by a strange aura of mystery, and it’s not difficult to see why so many artists are drawn to them. Yuliya Kucherenko made them the central theme of her embroidery hoops, which make it seem like her jellyfish are floating freely through the water, just like their real-life contra parts.

The embroidery artist from Ukraine, who goes by @yuliya.ku on Instagram, draws inspiration from all sorts of aquatic creators, but jellyfish are the shining stars of her opus. She uses all sorts of different techniques, including beading, thread painting, and needle felting, to make them come to life and the final result is truly astonishing.

What we like the most about her embroidery creations is that she always leaves long threads expending past the hoop, making it seem like her jellyfish are swimming in the ocean. The effect is enhanced by her photography technique since she always lays her hoops on layers of blue tulle, reminiscent of deep ocean waters.

Kucherenko enjoys adding starfish, pearls, and other tiny details to the mix to make her creations more life-like. Some of them are available for purchase on her Etsy page, along with online embroidery courses and other resources for beginners.

The most amazing embroidery artists are the ones who manage to elevate this art form by creating something truly unique. That’s the case with Kathrin Marchenko, who’s making her mark in the embroidery world with whimsical tulle creations.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CAs2ZN2HgMU/

The Russian artist describes her technique as “organized chaos” because she enjoys working with many shades of threads, and prefers focusing on the objects she’s trying to stitch instead of making sketches beforehand.

“I like to work with tulle, as it is a transparent fabric that makes embroidery visually more voluminous … I am attracted to bright saturated colors, so I often try to integrate them with harmonious colors but try not to make it too flashy,” Marchenko told Bored Panda.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5zwjakCeio/

Marchenko had a passion for art from a young age, but her journey as an embroidery artist started in 2015. About a year later, she also attended sewing courses and came up with the idea to use embroidery technique on tulle, drawing inspiration from some of her favorite designers, including Valentino and Elie Saab.

Fashion remains one of Marchenko’s driving forces, but she also draws inspiration from other art forms. The success and hard work of other artists is also an important driving force for Marchenko, and they’re constantly igniting her desire to create.

The majority of viral embroidery artists are focusing on nature and popular culture, but Ipnot found inspiration in a different place. The Japanese artist is mostly creating 3D embroidery designs inspired by food and some of them are so realistic you’ll have to look twice.

The self-taught artist works with a collection of 500 different colors of yarn and uses the technique known as the French knot to make her creations incredibly realistic.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5XD8TpgwCc/

“I was drawn to embroidery because my grandmother used to do embroidery and made it look very relaxing and enjoyable. So I tried it and I enjoyed it myself… As in the art of stipple painting, I use my needle like a paintbrush and I stitch one knot at a time,” explains Ipnot on her official website.

She often takes photos of her embroidery next to real fruits and veggies they’re inspired by, forcing us to tell the difference between art and reality. Some of her viral 3D works even recreate the movements of real food, including the pizza with melting cheese and the floating kettle pouring coffee.

Embroidery is one of the most popular art forms on Instagram, but it’s usually limited to decorative embroidery on classic hoops. Turkish artist Nazli Şeyler is putting a twist on this trend with her wearable pieces and her magical bags are amongst her best.

Think Pink

There’s nothing not to love about this charming bag and Şeyler perfectly matched the color of the fabric to the shades of the threads she picked for her embroidery flower.

Classic Vintage

With polka dot design, round lace frame, and beaded details on the strap, this adorable bag is as vintage as it gets.

Paint it Black

Şeyler enjoys working with light and neutral tones, but this design proves that her bags can look just as magical when she gives darker colors a chance.

Army Green

If you thought that army green color can’t possibly look elegant and classy, this cute bag with flower and bird embroidery will change your mind.

Velvet Fever

In addition to bags, collars are also one of Şeyler’s signature products, and this velvet combo in the vibrant burgundy shade is one of her very best designs so far.

The most amazing embroidery artists are the ones who manage to elevate this art form by creating something truly unique. That’s the case with Kathrin Marchenko, who’s making her mark in the embroidery world with whimsical tulle creations.
