With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it is time to start planning the menu. Obviously, the turkey will be there, but dessert is just as important. There are some traditional desserts like pumpkin pie, that are always a crowd-pleaser but sometimes it’s nice to mix it up. Here are some new desserts to serve your guests. 

Pumpkin Cupcakes

If you still want the traditional taste of pumpkin pie, but in a cake form, pumpkin-flavored cupcakes are the perfect treat. Ice them with some cream cheese icing, and a little pumpkin candy.

Pecan Pie

One pie that is delicious during every season, is pecan pie. The custard layer, combined with the pecan filling is going to leave your guests begging for more. 

Apple Crumble

As Thanksgiving falls towards the end of the harvest season, crisp apples are available by the bushel. Grab a bunch of apples, and make individual apple crumbles for your guests. Add a dollop of whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream to make this even tastier.

Gingerbread Bundt Cake

Bundt cakes are excellent dessert or coffee cakes. They’re easy to slice, and when it comes to the fall the smell of gingerbread in cake form has everyone drooling. Add a maple drizzle to the cake, and it is sure to be the star of the night.

Summer will be over soon, so use its last days to make this delicious peach galette. Galette is a French word for flat crusty cakes that can be filled with anything you want, and this peach version by food blogger Sarah Brunella is one of our all-time favorites.

Here’s how to make it—the ingredients are enough for one big galette or 4 smaller galettes.

Ingredients

For the dough

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 10 tbsp butter
  • 4-5 tbsp ice water

For the filling

  • 3-4 peaches
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
  • 3 tbsp suger

Instructions

  • Use a food processor to mix the flour, salt, and butter for the dough until you get a mixture that looks like bread crumbs. Add water one spoon at a time and mix until you get a dough that holds together when you pinch it.
  • Dust the work surface with flour and put your dough on it. Make a rectangular-shaped pile and use your hands to smear it against the table. Work through all of the dough, gather it into a pile, and repeat.
  • Depending on how many galettes you’re making, separate the dough into as many pieces, wrap in plastic foil, and leave in the fridge for an hour.
  • Roll out the dough on parchment paper and place in the fridge for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375F and put the oven rack to the middle position.
  • Cut the peaches into thin wedges. Sprinkle cinnamon and salt over them, add sugar, and mix everything together. Put the fruit in the center of the dough you rolled but leave the border empty.
  • Fold the dough over the fruit, brush with water, and sprinkle a bit more sugar.
  • Bake until you get golden-brown tart and bubbling fruit. This may take from 40 minutes to an hour.
  • Let your galettes cool for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  • Best served with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 3 egg whites
  • 2.5 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 tbsp corn starch

Instructions

  1. Combine the ingredients in a bowl and use an electric mixer to turn them into a fluffy, thick mixture.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking sheet and use a rubber spatula to turn it into a half-sphere so it bakes equally.
  3. Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven at 300 degrees F.

Tips

  • Don’t rush when forming the shape of the dough. There’s no need to overthink it, but the end result will depend on how carefully you shaped the dough before baking.
  • Cloud-bread is gluten-free and great for people who can’t eat gluten.
  • Even though it’s called bread, cloud bread is not suitable for making sandwiches or toast. Its consistency is closer to cotton candy or soft meringue.
  • You can add different food dyes and extracts to customize its appearance and taste!

  • 7 oz almonds or other nuts

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the filling:

Instructions

  1. Start with popsicle molds at room temperature and spray some cooking spray inside each of them.
  2. Mix together Greek yogurt and nearly all the prepared toasted coconut. Leave only 1/2 cup of it for decoration. Sprinkle them on top of every filled mold so it decorates the bottom of your popsicle when you take it out.
  3. Put the molds in the freezer for an hour. Add the wooden sticks and leave to freeze overnight before eating.
  4. If your popsicle won’t get out of the molds, run it under hot water for 15-20 seconds, then grab its stick and pull gently.

Ingredients

  • 150g egg whites at room temperature
  • 260g sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla (paste or extract)
  • 250 ml cream
  • 20g powdered sugar
  • 60g black currant jam
  • berries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 120 degrees Celsius.
  2. In a clean, dry bowl, whisk together the egg whites into a light foam.
  3. Start by adding the pinch of salt and one tablespoon of sugar at a time. When you add half of the sugar, add the cornstarch, vanilla and lemon juice and continue to whip the whites and add the remaining sugar until you have a thick and smooth mixture and firm tips.
  4. Pour the mixture onto a baking sheet covered with baking paper and shape using a spatula.
  5. Bake at 120 degrees for 90 minutes (no fan). Then turn off the oven and allow the cake to cool inside for about two hours or even overnight. It is extremely important not to open the oven during this time.
  6. Whip the cream with the sugar. Optionally, you can add black currant jam (or any jam) to flavor the whipped cream.
  7. Decorate with the jam and berries of choice.

Ingredients:         

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest

Instructions

  1. In a small heavy saucepan over medium heat, whisk eggs, sugar and lemon juice until blended.
  2. Add butter and lemon zest; cook, whisking constantly until mixture is thickened and coats the back of a metal spoon.
  3. Transfer to a small bowl; cool 10 minutes. Refrigerate, covered, until cold.

Looking for a tasty vegan dessert you can easily bake this weekend? This apple cake with almonds and oranges is a perfect refreshing dessert for these cold winter days.

Magda from Oatmeal Stories, who shared this recipe, says this cake is pretty simple and quick to make and it goes perfectly with a cup of tea or coffee. Enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 100g raw cane sugar
  • 60ml neutral oil (I used grapeseed)
  • 120ml fresh orange juice
  • 120ml unsweetened plant milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 150g spelt flour
  • 50g almond flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 small or 1 big apple, cored, peeled and cut into cubes
  • 1/3 cup almond flakes

Instructions:

  1. Add cane sugar and oil to a large mixing bowl, whisk it for about 30 seconds using a hand mixer with a whisk attachment.
  2. Add orange juice, plant milk and vanilla, whisk for another 30 seconds.
  3. Add flours, baking soda, baking powder, and salt and use the same whisk attachment to mix the batter on low speed. Whisk only until combined.
  4. Transfer the batter to a 20cm springform pan with the bottom lined with baking paper.
  5. Arrange apple chunks and almond flakes on top, with your fingers press them gently into the batter.
  6. Bake in 180C for 28-30 minutes. Cool to room temperature and run a knife around the edges before removing the cake.

Instructions

  • Use a food processor to mix the flour, salt, and butter for the dough until you get a mixture that looks like bread crumbs. Add water one spoon at a time and mix until you get a dough that holds together when you pinch it.
  • Dust the work surface with flour and put your dough on it. Make a rectangular-shaped pile and use your hands to smear it against the table. Work through all of the dough, gather it into a pile, and repeat.
  • Depending on how many galettes you’re making, separate the dough into as many pieces, wrap in plastic foil, and leave in the fridge for an hour.
  • Roll out the dough on parchment paper and place in the fridge for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375F and put the oven rack to the middle position.
  • Cut the peaches into thin wedges. Sprinkle cinnamon and salt over them, add sugar, and mix everything together. Put the fruit in the center of the dough you rolled but leave the border empty.
  • Fold the dough over the fruit, brush with water, and sprinkle a bit more sugar.
  • Bake until you get golden-brown tart and bubbling fruit. This may take from 40 minutes to an hour.
  • Let your galettes cool for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  • Best served with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 3 egg whites
  • 2.5 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 tbsp corn starch

Instructions

  1. Combine the ingredients in a bowl and use an electric mixer to turn them into a fluffy, thick mixture.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking sheet and use a rubber spatula to turn it into a half-sphere so it bakes equally.
  3. Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven at 300 degrees F.

Tips

  • Don’t rush when forming the shape of the dough. There’s no need to overthink it, but the end result will depend on how carefully you shaped the dough before baking.
  • Cloud-bread is gluten-free and great for people who can’t eat gluten.
  • Even though it’s called bread, cloud bread is not suitable for making sandwiches or toast. Its consistency is closer to cotton candy or soft meringue.

For the filling:

  • 15 oz coconut flavored Greek yogurt (use whichever brand you prefer)
  • 2 cups toasted coconut

Instructions

  1. Start with popsicle molds at room temperature and spray some cooking spray inside each of them.
  2. Mix together Greek yogurt and nearly all the prepared toasted coconut. Leave only 1/2 cup of it for decoration. Sprinkle them on top of every filled mold so it decorates the bottom of your popsicle when you take it out.
  3. Put the molds in the freezer for an hour. Add the wooden sticks and leave to freeze overnight before eating.
  4. If your popsicle won’t get out of the molds, run it under hot water for 15-20 seconds, then grab its stick and pull gently.

Ingredients

  • 150g egg whites at room temperature
  • 260g sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla (paste or extract)
  • 250 ml cream
  • 20g powdered sugar
  • 60g black currant jam
  • berries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 120 degrees Celsius.
  2. In a clean, dry bowl, whisk together the egg whites into a light foam.
  3. Start by adding the pinch of salt and one tablespoon of sugar at a time. When you add half of the sugar, add the cornstarch, vanilla and lemon juice and continue to whip the whites and add the remaining sugar until you have a thick and smooth mixture and firm tips.
  4. Pour the mixture onto a baking sheet covered with baking paper and shape using a spatula.
  5. Bake at 120 degrees for 90 minutes (no fan). Then turn off the oven and allow the cake to cool inside for about two hours or even overnight. It is extremely important not to open the oven during this time.
  6. Whip the cream with the sugar. Optionally, you can add black currant jam (or any jam) to flavor the whipped cream.
  7. Decorate with the jam and berries of choice.

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest

Instructions

  1. In a small heavy saucepan over medium heat, whisk eggs, sugar and lemon juice until blended.
  2. Add butter and lemon zest; cook, whisking constantly until mixture is thickened and coats the back of a metal spoon.
  3. Transfer to a small bowl; cool 10 minutes. Refrigerate, covered, until cold.

Looking for a tasty vegan dessert you can easily bake this weekend? This apple cake with almonds and oranges is a perfect refreshing dessert for these cold winter days.

Magda from Oatmeal Stories, who shared this recipe, says this cake is pretty simple and quick to make and it goes perfectly with a cup of tea or coffee. Enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 100g raw cane sugar
  • 60ml neutral oil (I used grapeseed)
  • 120ml fresh orange juice
  • 120ml unsweetened plant milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 150g spelt flour
  • 50g almond flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 small or 1 big apple, cored, peeled and cut into cubes
  • 1/3 cup almond flakes

Instructions:

  1. Add cane sugar and oil to a large mixing bowl, whisk it for about 30 seconds using a hand mixer with a whisk attachment.
  2. Add orange juice, plant milk and vanilla, whisk for another 30 seconds.
  3. Add flours, baking soda, baking powder, and salt and use the same whisk attachment to mix the batter on low speed. Whisk only until combined.
  4. Transfer the batter to a 20cm springform pan with the bottom lined with baking paper.
  5. Arrange apple chunks and almond flakes on top, with your fingers press them gently into the batter.
  6. Bake in 180C for 28-30 minutes. Cool to room temperature and run a knife around the edges before removing the cake.
