Are you curious about what you can do to be happier? Well, you’re not the only one. In fact, there’s an entire subfield of psychology that specifically studies human happiness. It’s called positive psychology and it has quite a few insights to offer about what we can do as individuals to be happier.

Take Care of Your Health

The studies don’t lie: people who have better health—get better sleep and exercise more—are also happier. So as lame as it may sound if you’re not sleeping and exercising enough, try starting there. You might be surprised how much of an impact it makes.

Meditate

Another thing you can do that will make a huge impact on your happiness is meditation. By teaching you to focus on the present moment instead of worrying about the future or obsessing over the past, meditation is a great tool for improving happiness.

Gratitude

One common fallacy we humans make is believing that we’ll be happy if we just obtain that thing we want: the job, the promotion, the partner, the salary, etc. But the truth is that as long as we’re always focused on getting the next thing, we’ll never be happy. What will really make us happy is being grateful for what we already have.
