Ramen can be a great snack or a nice budget meal for rainy days. But what if you only have the noodles or you want the most popular flavor, chicken, but all you have is prawn? Luckily, it’s super easy to make ramen broth from scratch! Here’s how to make your own broth at home.

The first three ingredients you’ll need are chicken stock (powder is just fine), fresh garlic, and soy sauce. Chicken stock will be your base, so start by boiling some in a pot. Use a heaping tablespoon of powder if that’s what you’re using. Don’t use too much or it will be too salty.

Crush 3 or more cloves of garlic and add to the pot. If you don’t have fresh, use garlic powder. If you like some extra zing, fresh ginger or ginger powder are a delicious addition to make a more authentic broth. This is also very soothing if you aren’t feeling well.

Finally, add your soy sauce. Start with a teaspoon and add more to taste. This is what will provide you with the umami flavor that defines ramen. If you like, try adding a bit of sesame oil and green onions on top.

Now you can add your noodles, and try dropping in a raw egg to cook for some protein. Enjoy!
