Knitting is a classic pastime, and it’s not just for grandmas anymore. (Okay, it never really was.) The truth is that knitting is a great hobby for many reasons. It’s relaxing. It produces something useful. It’s creative. And it lets you make lots and lots of cool gifts for people. If you want to try it out for yourself, here are some tips to follow.

Buy Cheap Yarn

Once you first start buying yarn, you’ll learn quickly that there is so much yarn out there. And it can actually get pretty expensive. But as a beginner knitter, chances are pretty low you’ll be making masterpieces from the get-go. So just start with the cheap stuff. It’ll work just fine.

Just Keep Knitting

Even once you get the hang of knitting, your technique and tension aren’t going to be very good for a while. That’s okay! Just keep at it; eventually, you’ll improve and your work will start to look better and better.

Get a Buddy

Ideally, have a friend teach you how to knit in person. If that’s not an option, learn from videos. But trying to learn to knit from written instructions is just a recipe for frustration.
