“The shag cut” is predicted to be the top hair trend of 2020. This is great for fans of low-maintenance dos as we can now trade in our flat irons for an “I woke up like this” rock ‘n’ roll look.
The shag cut is essentially a choppy, voluminous cut which is worn in a messy, relaxed style. It’s bold, grungey, and style icon Alexa Chung has been rocking the look since the womb.
“It will definitely further push the year of grunge!,” London hairstylist Bradley Deeming said (via Glamour). “Think undone and tastefully messy do’s with a strong shape, evolving current beachy looks and even has the potential to replace the classic ruched wave.”
In terms of how to achieve the look yourself, Bradley reassures trend-followers that the transition for 2019’s blunt bob to 2020 boho is pretty straight-forward.
“Luckily for the grower, it’s an easy transition from blunt to boho” he explained. “Changing your habits to learn to style your new haircut is key – gone are the round brush blow-dries, as the shag requires a looser, undone finish.
“Flipping your head upside down and using a large quantity of R&CO dry shampoo is one of my top tips!”
The shag cut is notoriously known as a cut that suits everyone. If you want to give it a try, we don’t think you will be disappointed.
