Working from home has its ups and its downs. The pandemic ushered in a new era in which companies worked from home more than ever before, and as a result, we all learned what that meant. For some, working from home was heaven in a basket. For others, it was something of a nightmare. The truth is that everyone reacts differently to working from home, and here’s why.

You Need a Workspace

It’s hard to understate the importance of having a good workspace when working from home. This entails a handful of different things, from the privacy of the space to comfort. It’s all good and well to not have to commute to work, but if your home workspace isn’t up to par, your work will suffer as a result.

Beyond Physical Space

But the truth is that a successful home work space extends far beyond that of its physical qualities. What it really comes down to is how comfortable you feel emotionally and how distracted you are. For instance, if you have other family members at home, it’s monumentally harder to get work done at home.

This isn’t a knock on family members. Family time is amazing, but good distractions are still distractions nonetheless. Ultimately, this can affect work productivity, which is why some people don’t love working from home.

So when we stress the importance of having a good workspace, it’s not just about what the room looks like—it’s also about the big picture of who’s at home, and how effective you can be with those distractions.
