Amelie Bea Smith in "The Haunting of Bly Manor"

The spooky season is an exciting time for fans of scary movies and TV thrillers. Halloween time harkens the return of cult classics such as Hocus Pocus, Ghostbusters, and The Addams Family. However, 2020 is about to earn a special place in the hearts of horror viewers as streaming services go all out, competing to bring audiences the best new shows during social distancing. Here is a list of some shows to get excited about:

Monsterland (Hulu)

An eight-episode horror-drama anthology, Monsterland is based on a book of short stories called North American Lake Monsters: Stories. While monsters are featured, this high-minded show blends in social commentary and will leave viewers with the uncomfortable feelings that the real monsters are within themselves.

Welcome to the Blumhouse (Amazon)

Blumhouse, the respected studio that produced horror staples such as Paranormal Activity and Get Out launched a new anthology of four new thrillers this month.

The Haunting of Bly Manor (Netflix)

This miniseries is a take-off of Netflix’s hit program The Haunting of Hill House, with a completely unrelated story. The new season is based on a classic novel, The Turn Of The Screw, and is sure to have you shaking in your boots.

Helstrom (Hulu)

For all of the Marvel fans out there, this standalone drama from the official Marvel Cinematic Universe is supposed to feature demons and mystery.
