The African Dance Workout Everyone is Talking About

Have you seen the latest YouTube workout video that’s has over 2.5 million views since it’s late April release? The video is from Kukuwa Fitness and it’s led by Kukuwa Kyereboah-Nuamah, the CEO of Kukuwa Fitness, ACE-certified fitness professional, and professor of African dance and culture. It’s the cardio exercise you need during quarantine and it’s so much fun you’ll forget that you’re working out!

“KUKUWA African Dance Workout is not only a workout, it’s an education and journey,” reads the brand’s website and adds that the workouts work “your arms, waist, legs and hips to a blend of Central, East, South, West, and North African rhythms.”

In total, the video is 19-minutes long with a brief warm up and cool down, and 15-minutes of African dancing. The dances featured in the video are from Malawi, Mali, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Nigeria and the moves combine squats, punches, and kicks with upbeat, fun music.
