First came avocado toast, then came peaches and cream on toast, and now you can basically put anything on your toast and call it a trend. Of course, you will want to make them Instagram-worthy and impress your partner, so here are three toast ideas to make breakfast a little more interesting.

Veggie Toast

On a piece of toast of your choice, spread beetroot hummus, slice up some avocados, and sprinkle feta, pickled onions, and toasted seeds. You’ve got yourself a very healthy meal.

Fruit Toast

If you have a sweet tooth, this one is for you. Spread a light layer of butter on the toast, add some cream cheese, baked apples, cinnamon, and a generous drizzle of honey and you have a delicious dessert toast.

Egg in a Hole

Cook this toast, by cutting a hole in a slice of bread and placing it over melted shredded cheese in a nonstick skillet. Once it gets crispy, flip it and add the egg to the hole and some ham. When it’s done, flavor it with salt and pepper and some chopped greens.

Meal planning does not have to be hard, but the word meal planning puts so many people in a stress that they don’t even bother trying. Actually, it’s amazing and it can help you to be more organized and stop you from cooking every single night. It shouldn’t take you more than two hours per week, once you have a regular grocery list organized full of proteins, whole grains, healthy fats and, of course, fruit and vegetables, you’re good to go! Here are three tips to make meal planning as easy as possible.

Tip 1:

Prepare two different types of protein for the week—it doesn’t have to be chicken and fish or meat and fish, it can be as simple as chicken cooked two different ways with two different sauces. You’ll want some variety when meal planning, so prepare some breasts for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and some thighs and legs for Tuesday and Thursday. The same goes for whole grains—you won’t want rice every night, so mix it up with some whole-grain pasta, quinoa, bulgar, or millet. These will last in the fridge for five days.

Tip 2:

Cut up your vegetables for the week. What puts most people off is the constant chopping before each meal which takes longer than eating. So while your whole grains and proteins are cooking, start chopping. Keep them all in sealed containers in the fridge so you can just throw them in a salad or the oven when you come home from a busy day.

Tip 3:

Make overnight oats for breakfast. This is a one-and-done prep that can last five mornings and is so filling and delicious that you won’t even need to think about what to eat. And you can add anything you want on top. All you need is a bag of oats and some yogurts—we suggest the high-protein ones. Then add your milk of choice, chia seeds (if you want), and maple syrup or honey. You will have a meal filled with all the nutrients you need. You can make it in a large bowl or put it in individual mason jars.

Many kids hate vegetables, but it’s considered normal to start eating more of them once you’re an adult. While some people make the switch without batting an eye, for others it’s a real struggle. As it turns out, some people are “genetically wired” not to like vegetables and perhaps you’re among them.

New research has found that there are people with two copies of a particular taste gene who are affected by this. The researchers believe this can be the explanation behind why some people go out of their way to avoid vegetables as adults. The excess gene mentioned makes particular foods like sprouts and broccoli more bitter and less tasty.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B-xCthMJeqI/

They warn that this could affect some people’s diets and prevent them from eating the recommended daily dose of fruits and vegetables. If you fall under this group of people, perhaps you can change the way you prepare certain vegetables or you can try eating non-bitter veggies more. We just hope you’re aware of all the health benefits that come from eating a balanced diet that includes all food groups.

You know you should eat more vegetables, but you’re just not that person. If you eat a veggie every now and then just so you could say you do but you don’t really enjoy them, know that you can easily change that. Here’s what we recommend everyone who wants to truly enjoy vegetables.

Get the Right Recipes

If you just boil or steam the vegetables, chances are they aren’t going to taste good. Pick up some recipes from cookbooks or try new dishes when eating out and learn how they are prepared.

Add Dressing

Salad dressings can be very high in calories but avoiding them leads to bland salads that nobody would like. Try adding a mixture of oil and acid and the taste will instantly improve. The possible combinations include olive oil and balsamic vinegar, sunflower oil and lemon juice, etc.

Grill the Veggies

Grilled vegetables taste amazing and don’t feel like obligatory healthy food, but like a real, delicious treat. Try grilling eggplant, zucchini or tomatoes and you’ll see what we’re talking about.

Add Nuts and Seeds

A meal that consists of salad alone may sound healthy but it won’t keep you full for long. Boost it with some healthy fats from nuts and seeds that also affect the flavor and watch yourself turn into a person who eats a salad every night for dinner.

Many diets and prescribed menus rely on the idea that following nature’s seasonal cycles have a positive impact on our health. This is also a leading idea in many gourmets food establishment, since using seasonal ingredients means no preservatives are necessary and the food is fresh from the farm. While seasonal food is also location-specific, it’s good to know what kind of ingredients are naturally available during which seasons:

https://www.instagram.com/p/B9oZ6g2H4as/

Winter

Unsurprisingly, winter excels in root vegetables. This includes all kinds of potatoes, as well as parsnips, turnips, and carrots. Onions, leeks, and mushrooms are also available, together with beets, cabbage, broccoli, and brussels sprouts. In terms of fruits go for apples, pears, and citrus fruits to keep it seasonal.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B92RuTDARrB/

Spring

Spring vegetables bring in some color, bright purple radishes, spring onions, and different types of green beans. This is also a great season for asparagus, with a small window for the rare white asparagus in selected locations. Add to these corn and peas, and for dessert some fresh, delicious berries.

Summer

Enjoy tomatoes and cucumbers at their peak flavor during the summer, add peppers and zucchini for some great texture. Summer fruits are a real celebration with peaches, mangos, grapes, and cherries in season.

Fall

The first thought as soon as the summer is over is pumpkins and sweet potatoes. The apples are back but the real seasonal treat, for savory or sweet, is the pomegranate.

The idea of going on a diet is often daunting and most of the time doesn’t actually work. You can eliminate entire food groups or do intermittent fasting, but is this sustainable? Eating healthy doesn’t always mean you have to diet. Eating healthy can mean changing your lifestyle and sticking with it for the rest of your life. Here are some tips for you to make changes to your health without going on a diet.

Fruit and Vegetables

Adding more fruit and vegetables into your diet can provide a huge amount of benefits, including protection against cancer, heart disease, and the effects of aging. You should try to add at least one piece of fruit or vegetables to each meal. If you want more, aim to have half your lunch or dinner plate covered in vegetables.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B8dsL96p4D0/

Drink More Water

Drinking soda is basically drinking water with sugar and is packed with calories, even diet soda. Smoothies and fruit juice are healthier but are also high in calories. Cutting these drinks out of your diet and drinking more water is way more beneficial. Try to drink 8 glasses per day, and if you don’t love the taste of plain water add some lemon or cucumbers.

Eat More Fibre

Fiber will keep you full and will also help you lose weight, so add more to your plate. Swap the white bread for whole grain and the white rice for brown rice. Always choose the whole grain alternative when cooking food and you will see how much better you feel.

You may not like your green vegetables but you still want to eat them because they’re good for you — and we can absolutely relate to that! Nobody likes all food, and if you happen to not like the taste of green veggies, there’s a lot you can do to make them a part of your daily menu. Here’s how you can make sure you’re eating enough greens even if you don’t eat your salads every single day.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B6iExfPl8vk/

Smoothie

You can make a smoothie and basically trick yourself into consuming green veggies by adding some fruit to mask the taste. You can mix and match many different fruits and veggies and experiment until you find your favorite combos.

Chips

Did you know that you can make kale chips? Not only they’re delicious, but they’re also good for you and this will completely change the way you see snacks.

Pasta With Greens

If you can’t possibly eat your greens on the side, try adding them to pasta or other dishes you love. Even a regular sandwich will be more delicious and better for you if you add some lettuce to it.

We are in the midst of winter, which also means that flu and cold season is upon us. The best way to avoid getting sick is to eat a well-balanced diet packed with fruits and vegetables. These five fruits and vegetables will provide you with all the nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants you need to stay healthy.

Apples

We’re sure you’ve heard the saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Apples reduce inflammation and they regulate the immune system. They’re also a prebiotic that create anti-inflammatory cells to help you recover quicker and they help keep good gut bacteria.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B72H3qNj9oZ/

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are not only delicious, but they’re also high in Vitamin A, which keeps your immune system and skin healthy.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7g9_WyJoLA/

Pomegranates

Although this is a seasonal fruit available from October to January, you can find pomegranate juice year-round. Did you know pomegranate juice has more antioxidants than grape juice, green tea, and red wine?

Mushrooms

While mushrooms aren’t a favorite among many people, they help boost white blood cell production which fights off viruses and bacteria that are dangerous to your immune system.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B71AAzCotvI/

Spinach

This leafy green not only pairs well in salads, but it’s also loaded with cold-fighting nutrients like Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E. Make sure you cook spinach as little as possible so it keeps its nutrients.

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are not only delicious, but they’re also high in Vitamin A, which keeps your immune system and skin healthy.

Spinach

This leafy green not only pairs well in salads, but it’s also loaded with cold-fighting nutrients like Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E. Make sure you cook spinach as little as possible so it keeps its nutrients.
