]]>Who doesn’t love a glass of wine after a hard day’s work? But what do you do with the wine bottle when it’s empty? You put it in the trash, of course. But why not save them to paint and use them as vases? We’re sure there has been a time you received flowers and had nowhere to put them. Well, with your beautifully decorated wine bottles you will always have a place.
All you need is a piece of wood and some macrame cord and a drill if you want to secure it to the wall. You can choose any wood you want and color. Make four small holes with a drill on each corner and then thread through the string, connect it to a macrame ring, and then put it onto a hook in the wall. Add some pretty plants or small books.
We all have those CDs sitting in our living room collecting dust, so instead of throwing them away, why not cover them in fabric or paint them and make them coasters for your drinks? Add some stones, make them glossy or matt, whatever your design choice is, make it fun!
What can you do with all that leftover fabric you have from costumes you once made? Why not cover your plant pots with it? All you need is some plain plant pots, fabric, and mod podge and you will have a fantastic fabric-covered plant pot to brighten up your home.

]]>How many times have you thought or said that you simply don’t have the talent for painting? The good news is that talent is pretty overrated here and that it takes time and effort to learn how to paint, just like with any other skill. Just give it a try!
Whatever creative work you’re doing, the continuity is crucial. You need to keep creating in order to find inspiration for new things, while your works simultaneously get better week after week.
When you’re first trying out a hobby, you never know if you will stick to it. That’s why it’s important not to overspend on the supplies so you won’t feel guilty about not using them as much as you’ve thought. You can easily upgrade your equipment later if you want to improve your work.

]]>“Reflecting on that idea gives me the space to experiment and play with composition in a way I find visually engaging and perceptually challenging,” he remarked once in an interview with Art Maze Magazine. “In another sense, I am interested in creating a paradoxical whole. Something that claims to represent and encapsulate the entirety of an experience, while being a figment or mirage.”
According to Perkins, his interest in Mobius-like forms comes from exploring this paradoxical thought. But incredibally enough, his work isn’t digital but painted with extreme precision. “In terms of working digitally, much of my work with color is first sketched out in photoshop in terms of general color relationships,” he explained the process, “however all drawing, masking, cutting, and painting is done by hand”.
His techniques combine artistic intuition with clever mathematics and exploration of space to create beautiful images. His use of color is also informed and is based on a careful study of the ways different colors interact with each other. “I have a catalog of images and sources that I use as a source for color relationships in my paintings,” sats Perkins. “I find referring to something outside of myself really helpful for understanding and making color decisions.”
If you’re a fan of optical illusions, you’ll certainly enjoy following the twists and turns of his images.

]]>With her creative roots in Portland, you could argue that Jacobs was destined to be an illustrator. “I knew I wanted to be an illustrator when I was a kid,” she admitted in an interview with Catapult. Having a mom who painted and a dad who played jazz piano, also helped. “When I got older and started needing to make decisions about my life, I realized that drawing had always been all I ever wanted to do and that illustration would be a good way to keep doing it,” she further relayed.
Now based in LA, she mainly works from her home studio, which she shares with a black and white dog named Archie. Her tools of choice include acrylic paint, colored paper, and synthetic brushes.
Sticking to a distinct color palette, with most her work character driven, Jacobs’ illustrations present a certain mood that is very much welcome in our Instagram feed. Take a look for yourself:

]]>Enter Daniel J. Yeomans. An acclaimed contemporary artist with traditional training at the Internationally renowned Charles H. Cecil studios in Florence, Yeomans understands what makes and breaks a painting.
“Working from life enables spontaneous brushwork,” he explained in an interview with Jackson’s Art. “Each brushstroke, the color, the direction, the thickness of the paint is all a response to something happening in front of me. If all this becomes still (in a photo) I lose all these variable qualities in my work that make it my own.”
His technique is borrowed from renaissance artists, with little to no change, so that his work has this timeless quality to it. According to Yeomans, his commissioned paintings make for the ideal gift, and one that is cherished for generations to come.
We’re not sure we’re that important, but we’re willing to take the gamble!

]]>But while tending to stick to one medium of choice, Gray’s subject matter changes depending on time, place, and overall mood. Some of her paintings include impressionistic landscapes while others lean towards more surreal settings. Her work itself drawn from studies from life, automatic sketching, and found images.
“I would say my practice is project-based,” says Gray, “but honestly, I tend to ascribe to the ‘I’ll paint what I want, when I want’ attitude. If a subject captivates me, or I think of a composition, I’ll go with it.” While her online presence has still some growing to do (and we recommend you show her some love!), we can’t wait to see where she’s headed.
Here are some of her recent projects:

]]>When you paint, your brush picks up dust and dirt, so when you dip it back into the can, all of the dirt ends up back in the can, which leads to your painted wall having specs and dots instead of a smooth finish. Also, dipping a paint roller in a can is extremely difficult and you may even tip it over.
Pouring 1/2 inch of paint into a plastic bucket or paint tray at a time will keep the paint fresher. If you knock over your paint, you won’t be wasting that much of it and it will be a lot easier to clean it up.
Air dries out paint and as soon as you open the paint can, it starts to dry out. You may be better buying two smaller buckets of paint to avoid this problem. Try and cover your paint can or tray whenever possible.
