The 3 Painting Rules You Need to Follow

Are you thinking about painting your living room this weekend? Before you start, you should know that there are three painting rules to follow. These tips will give you a professional-looking paint job that you can achieve on your own.

Never Paint Out of a Can

When you paint, your brush picks up dust and dirt, so when you dip it back into the can, all of the dirt ends up back in the can, which leads to your painted wall having specs and dots instead of a smooth finish. Also, dipping a paint roller in a can is extremely difficult and you may even tip it over.

Pour No More Than 1/2 Inch of Paint at a Time

Pouring 1/2 inch of paint into a plastic bucket or paint tray at a time will keep the paint fresher. If you knock over your paint, you won’t be wasting that much of it and it will be a lot easier to clean it up.

Limit the Paint’s Exposure to Air

Air dries out paint and as soon as you open the paint can, it starts to dry out. You may be better buying two smaller buckets of paint to avoid this problem. Try and cover your paint can or tray whenever possible.
