Hot drinks are a fantastic way to warm up when you’re working from home and feeling the chill. But having too many coffees can lead to the jitters and sometimes you might fancy something a little bit different. This healthy hot chocolate is the perfect pick-me-up AND it’s full of plant-powered nourishment!

Cacao is a great source of antioxidants, iron, and magnesium. The Mexican-inspired spices add even more health-boosting goodness, and the high ratio of water to milk makes this beverage low in calories and full of flavor!

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 teaspoons of the best organic cacao powder you can find
  • 2 teaspoons of date syrup or your favorite natural sweetener
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 3 tablespoons dairy milk or barista-style plant milk

Instructions:

  1. Take your favorite mug and add the cacao, salt, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper. Add a few tablespoons of the boiling water and stir well until you have made a thin, lump-free paste.
  2. Add the date syrup/sweetener and mix.
  3. Add more boiling water until your mug is around 4/5 full.
  4. Finish off with the milk and stir well.
  5. Add more sweetener to taste but aim to really embrace the pure, rich taste of the cacao.
  6. Enjoy this antioxidant-packed chocolatey treat!
