There’s just something about cheese boards that brings people together. They are neatly-organized, colorful, super-tasty – and no one is better at putting them together than Marissa Mullen behind That Cheese Plate.
She’s been giving us cheese board inspiration for years with her flawless artful arrangements and transformed a fun hobby into a legitimate career. When she started doing this in 2013, Mullen didn’t stumble upon a ton of cheese plate content, but that changed over the years as more people fell in love with this unique art form.
Countless Instagram users started sharing their own plates consisting of cheese, cured meats, nuts, veggies, spreads, and more. Mullen wasn’t threatened by the competition, and it filled her heart with joy to see so many people putting together their own cheese boards for fun.
At the end of the day, this activity isn’t all about the food. It’s a communal experience that brings people joy, and that’s exactly the reason why the mastermind behind That Cheese Plate enjoys it so much.
“For me, creating a cheese plate was this therapeutic meditation where I could create this art form of cheese and accouterments and then bring all my friends together and we could all share the experience,” said Mullen in an interview with Refinery 29.
