With the NBA Championship in arm’s reach, the Los Angeles Lakers have decided to honor the memory of Kobe Bryant in the potentially decisive Game 5 of the series by wearing their iconic “Black Mamba” jerseys.

While the Lakers initially planned to wear these shirts for Game 2 and Game 7 of the clash, the team recently decided to wear them in Game 5 as well, considering it may be the final game of the season. So far, the Lakers are undefeated in the Black Mamba jersey, with a 4-0 record.

Currently, the Lakers hold a 3-1 series lead over the Miami Heat, meaning that the West Coast side requires just one more victory to lift the NBA title. The Heat, on the other hand, will have to win all of the remaining games in order to do so.

LeBron James had this to say about this special jersey: “It’s always special to represent someone that meant so much, not only to the game but also to the Lakers organization for 20-plus years. For us to honor him, being on the floor, this is what it’s all about.

We’re thinking about the Bryant family, of Vanessa and them daughters. They’re with us, we’re with you guys, we love you guys and hopefully, we’re making them proud by wearing these uniforms tonight and throughout the course of the postseason.”
