Investigating the 80-20 Diet

Sticking to a diet 24/7 is difficult, and sometimes impossible. If there’s no room for ‘cheat’ days, the chances are you’re going to fail most of the time. That’s where the 80/20 Diet comes in.

The basic principle is that you eat ‘clean’ for 80 percent of the time, and eat what you like for the remaining 20 percent of the time. So, splurging is not only allowed, it’s actively encouraged. Jessica Alba and Miranda Kerr are said to be on it, and the experts are pretty positive too.

The diet has been hailed as balanced, while still allowing you to eat your favorite foods, making it more likely you will stick to it in the long term. No foods are completely banned, so during your 20 percent of freedom, you can pretty much eat whatever you want.

The downside of going completely crazy on your cheat days is that you could actually put on weight, so moderation and healthy choices are encouraged. That means eating one slice of cake instead of the whole thing, and one slice of pizza instead of all of it. Sounds pretty reasonable and doable to us. Anyone for pie?
