Being green is super trendy right now, but have you ever thought of how you can make your bedroom more eco-friendly? If you’re trying to be more sustainable, why not make the place where you spend a majority of your time in more green? It all starts with these small changes.
Get a New Mattress
Look for mattresses with Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification or Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) certification for organic latex. Not only are they super comfortable, but latex mattresses don’t need to be flipped and you can rotate them less often than innersprings, since they bounce back well.
Look for Eco Sheets
Use sheets that are organic or ethically sourced. They’ll have OEKO-Tex Standard 100, GOTS, Cradle to Cradle, and/or Fair Trade certification on the label. Cotton, linen, bamboo, and hemp are more eco-friendly materials.
Cover the Windows
Shades and drapes not only provide style to your space, but they also darken the room and insulate it. They can prevent winter heat loss and summer heat gain.
Build a Capsule Wardrobe
Start by clearing out your wardrobe and reselling and donating items you don’t wear and then shop high-quality, timeless pieces that will last you years, instead of buying fast fashion.
