In this day and age, it seems like we’re constantly on the go and that we can’t find time to slow down. If you feel like you’re life is in overdrive, it’s time to try “fika”, the Swedish tradition that involves making time for drinking coffee. But, fika’s about so much more than sipping coffee—it’s about living in the moment and taking time to slow down.

Fika’s such a big part of Swedish culture that many Swedish companies have put fika breaks into their employee’s contract and the term has been used as a noun or verb like “let’s go for a fika.”

Sweden happens to be the third-highest coffee consumption nation in the world and it’s typical for the average citizen to drink four cups a day—and we thought our three cups of coffee a day was a problem.

If you want to start implementing fika into your life the Swedish way, brew a classic cup of Swedish coffee in a drip machine and serve it with cinnamon or cardamom flavored sugar cookies or buns. Besides for that, there aren’t any rules for fika, which is one of the reasons why we love the idea.

Just set aside some free time during the day and grab a cup of coffee. It really is that easy!
