Finding a workout you love and look forward to is like discovering gold, but after a while, you’ll probably get bored with it. That’s when it’s time to try something new and explore different fitness routines. While switching things up may be overwhelming, it’s just what you need to keep things interesting and it can help you get over a fitness plateau. Here’s how to mix up your routine.

Increase the Intensity

When it comes to strength training, you should aim for one to three sets of eight to 12 reps. When that becomes too easy, it’s time to increase the intensity by adding more weights and doing less reps.

Try a New Class

When you’re lacking motivation, workout classes can help push your body and give you a healthy sense of competition. You may need to try a few classes before you find the perfect fit.

Slow Down

This can mean taking more rest days, switching up the days your train certain parts of your body, or taking a break from HIIT circuits and doing heavier weights.

Forget the Treadmill

If you’re all about getting your cardio in on the treadmill, take a break from it and add more strength training into your routine.

Target Different Muscles

When you’re body gets too comfortable with your routine, you’ll stop seeing improvements. Start training muscle groups that you usually don’t, which will challenge you just like training used to when you started.
