6 Ways to Become a More Positive Person

You’ve probably heard people say that thinking positively will make you happier, but that’s easier said than done. Learning to be more positive is challenging, but anyone can pick up the skills to get there. These six tips will help you become more motivated at work, improve your relationship, and become more confident.

Pick a Personal Mantra

Talking yourself into being more positive is hard a first, but try creating a positive personal mantra or affirmation like, “It is what it is” or “Everything happens for a reason.” You can even pick a lyric from a song or a line from a poem.

Start Daily Gratitude Practice

Expressing thankfulness can increase your joy, which leads to gratitude. Start by writing three things you’re thankful for each day in a journal or on your phone.

Go Outdoors

Spending time outside improves your mood and if going outside isn’t an option now, add indoor plants to your home office or watch nature scenes on YouTube.

Meditation

Practicing meditation and mindfulness has been proven to make you more positive. This will also help you recognize your negative thoughts and not give into them.

My upper body has never been physically strong. As a ballet dancer for most of my life, upper body strength was neither much needed or encouraged. When I practiced Vinyasa yoga, strength poses were always an option, one that I normally chose to skip because I didn’t think I could do them. Enter my first Ashtanga Full Primary class. Wow, I didn’t even know what a jump back was or how to do it, but I knew this was the practice I needed to get stronger. I have a love-hate relationship with these movements. I love them in a way because I know they are making me stronger physically and mentally, but damn are they hard! Do I sometimes wish they didn’t exist in the series? Oh yes! But that’s what yoga is about, it isn’t meant to be easy, it isn’t meant to just feel good all the time. It’s about pushing past your physical and mental limits, and surrendering to the practice to transcend your current state of being. We all want growth, right? Well, if you’re always doing things that are easy or feel good, how do you expect to grow? It doesn’t have to be pretty, it doesn’t have to be perfect. The important thing is that you TRY. Keep trying, over and over, and one day it will come. This is why yoga is called a P R A C T I C E. _ Join the #ashtangabasicschallenge! Practice Random Acts of Kindness

Volunteering at schools, hospitals, or homeless shelters or donating clothes, books, or furniture can help you feel fulfilled. You can even pay for the person in front of you in line’s coffee or donate blood to help out during the coronavirus.

Exercise

Being active can help shift your mood and you’ll get healthier in the process! Just a ten-minute walk or a quick yoga session is all you need.
