You’ve probably heard people say that thinking positively will make you happier, but that’s easier said than done. Learning to be more positive is challenging, but anyone can pick up the skills to get there. These six tips will help you become more motivated at work, improve your relationship, and become more confident.
Pick a Personal Mantra
Talking yourself into being more positive is hard a first, but try creating a positive personal mantra or affirmation like, “It is what it is” or “Everything happens for a reason.” You can even pick a lyric from a song or a line from a poem.
Start Daily Gratitude Practice
Expressing thankfulness can increase your joy, which leads to gratitude. Start by writing three things you’re thankful for each day in a journal or on your phone.
Go Outdoors
Spending time outside improves your mood and if going outside isn’t an option now, add indoor plants to your home office or watch nature scenes on YouTube.
Meditation
Practicing meditation and mindfulness has been proven to make you more positive. This will also help you recognize your negative thoughts and not give into them.
Practice Random Acts of Kindness
Volunteering at schools, hospitals, or homeless shelters or donating clothes, books, or furniture can help you feel fulfilled. You can even pay for the person in front of you in line’s coffee or donate blood to help out during the coronavirus.
Exercise
Being active can help shift your mood and you’ll get healthier in the process! Just a ten-minute walk or a quick yoga session is all you need.
