Eurovision is a massive singing competition that was started over 60 years ago and brings together European countries, as well as some outside the continent.

The 2019 contest was just held in Tel Aviv, Israel, and even if you didn’t watch, you’re surely going to hear the songs that were performed at some point. If you want to know more about what goes on inside Eurovision, read on!

Contestants

Although each contestant is representing a certain country, many of them aren’t actually from the country they’re singing for. This year, the singer from Estonia, Victor Crone, is actually Swedish! The singer from San Marino is from Turkey, the singer from Cyprus is Georgian and the list goes on and on.

Prizes

Although whoever wins Eurovision will tour and get other forms of compensation, there’s no actual prize for the winner. Also, none of the contestants are paid at all, and although it’s great exposure and usually will help their career a lot, it’s still an incredible amount of work to put in.

Rising Stars

Eurovision can really help make a career, even if people don’t realize that’s where they got their start once they’ve rose to fame. For example, the Swedish group ABBA became famous after the 1974 Eurovision where they took home first place.
