Why You Shouldn’t Do Work On Your Vacation

It seems trivial to say that you shouldn’t be doing work on your vacation, but it’s actually not as obvious as you’d think. It’s easier than ever nowadays to work remotely, making it easier to always “be on call”, even if you’ve told your boss that you’re taking a vacation. Here’s why it’s important to set clear boundaries, and how to do that.

Don’t Be Taken Advantage Of

Depending on the dynamic you have with your boss, your boss might try to squeeze as much as they can get from you, even while you’re on your vacation. Bosses don’t always realize the intimidation power that they have, because we as a result sometimes cave in happily to their “requests”. Don’t be afraid to be firm with your boss, and remind him that a vacation is just that—a vacation.

You Need Time Off

For your own sake, you need this time off. If you’re always doing a little bit of work even when you’re on break, work will always be on your mind, and that’s no way to live life. Work needs to be on work hours, and you should be able to enjoy your regular life for the rest of the time. So make sure to fight for that time!
