Why You Should be Wearing Sunscreen in Winter

Is SPF important in the Winter? The skies are grey and gloomy and you can’t see the sun so why do you need protection? Putting on SPF on your face in the summer months is part of your beauty regime but in the winter, most people forget.

Here is why it is important to still make sure you are applying SPF every day, no matter the weather.

Winter Skin

When your skin is dry in the winter, you are more likely to use an exfoliator. This will remove the dead skin to reveal the fresh skin underneath. Applying SPF is important as exfoliated skin is more sensitive if you have previous sun damage or pigmentation.

UVA RAYS

UVB rays drop in the winter but the UVA rays that contribute to aging and skin cancer are still a risk in the winter. UVA rays will penetrate through the clouds, so even when there is no sun your skin is still absorbing the harmful rays.

Fine Lines and Wrinkles

UVA rays are just as present in the winter and wearing SPF can prevent cumulative sun exposure that can result in fine lines and wrinkles. Use a dedicated SPF product on the face and not one that is already in the foundation or moisturizer as it is more effective.
