While Travel isn’t an Option, Check Out Polly Townsend Paintings

Unfortunately, it might take some time before we hit the road again, as traveling in most places is still strictly prohibited (and rightly so!). But in the meanwhile, as we idly scroll through our Instagram feed, we might take comfort in the painted landscapes of Polly Townsend.

Desolate and striking, her landscapes capture the very essence of wanderlust, drawing inspiration from her many journeys around the world. Those include uninhabited regions in Kashmir and Kyrgyzstan.

“They are places where the land is stark and exposed, unfertile, remote and even hostile,” explained Townsend in an interview with Jackson’s Art. But that’s exactly what makes them beautiful, even serene at times.

“There are two main curiosities in the work,” says Townsend, “that of the very formal qualities of the land; how it is in terms of its physical attributes, and, how that basic formal physicality registers and filters through me.” Indeed, her paintings call for introspection, bridging the gap between man and nature, or perhaps – enchanting it.
