It appears that the United States’ star winger Christian Pulisic will have to prolong his stay on the sidelines for at least one more week. Chelsea manager Frank Lampard told reporters on Thursday that Pulisic is dealing with a “problematic injury” and won’t be part of the squad that will face Newcastle United over the weekend.

Pulisic has been out since October 31st when he injured his hamstring while warming up for a clash against Burnley. He missed three straight games so far.

“Pulisic is not fit for Newcastle, but he has stepped up his training slowly,” said Lampard. “It has been quite a problematic injury, we have been cautious.”

This represents a continuation of bad luck with injuries for Christian Pulisic since he came to Chelsea. In his first season with the club, Pulisic spent extended time out of the lineup while dealing with an abductor muscle tear and hamstring issues.

The 2020/21 hasn’t been any better for Pulisic, as he only managed to play three Premier League games and make two UEFA Champions League appearances in this campaign. He has one goal to show for in those five matches.

Hopefully, Chelsea’s cautious approach will pay off and help Pulisic to back to the action without any setbacks. When he is healthy, the 22-year-old American showed that he could be a real difference-maker and a star that Chelsea needs if the club intends to compete for a title.
