Harsh lighting may make your baby may feel anxious. Avoid using exposed bulbs and halogen lights in a nursery and go for shaded or diffused lighting instead.

Installing a dimmer switch may be helpful because it creates a soothing atmosphere that encourages your baby to fall asleep. It also helps with late-night feedings, keeping your baby in a drowsy state.

The nursery should not be so dimly lighted that you battle to see what you’re doing. Layering the lighting takes care of this. Don’t just rely on one ceiling light but use lamps and another task-centered lighting, aiming for at least three light points.

Make sure that window treatments in the nursery allow you to keep the room cool and dark when your baby is sleeping. We all love natural light but it can cause your baby to wake up prematurely. Too much sun pouring in through the window can also overheat your baby.

You don’t have to worry about a newborn being afraid of the dark that a night light may help you from stumbling as you make your way into the room at night.
