At this time of year, the combination of the outdoor elements and heating systems inside can lead to dry hair and skin. One of the places this can be most obvious is the lips, and cracked lips can become very painful, especially in cold conditions. Avoid this common winter problem by following the tips listed here.

Lip Balm At Night

During the day, activities like eating, talking and drinking can reduce the efficacy of lip balm. Sometimes, it can feel like no matter how many times you apply, it’s rubbed off within five minutes. This is why it’s important to apply a rich, moisturizing balm at night, when it’s more likely to stay put and do it’s important work.

Stay Hydrated

It’s easier to forget to drink enough water in winter, but staying on top of your hydration is key if you want to avoid dry skin and lips. Perhaps start your day off with a cup of warm lemon water, or buy a bottle which reminds you to keep drinking – whatever works for you, make sure you’re staying hydrated.

Buy A Scarf

When it’s really cold and the wind is tearing down the streets, lifting your scarf up to cover your mouth can help protect your lips from the worst of the elements. Choose a scarf that’s big enough to cover your neck and the bottom of your face, and wrap it loosely around so you can still breathe easily.
