Bookstores are such a cozy place to be, especially when you’re traveling. Being surrounded by books is such an amazing feeling, and is a great escape from the hectic city. Although there are always great small independent bookstores in almost every big city, these are some of the best English bookstores from around the world.

The Strand

The Strand is an independent bookstore in New York City, just off of Union Square. There are so many books in this store that if you put them together, they say it would stretch for 18 miles. There you will find new, old, and unique books all at amazing prices. But whether you buy something or not, you have to go just to see how many books can fit into one store.

Shakespeare and Company

This English bookstore in Paris, France, is famous because of all the incredible writers that have visited and even lived in the store. Those include Hemmingway, Fitzgerald, Kerouac, and more. The store was also the first shop to publish James Joyce’s complete Ulysses.

Selexyz Dominicanen

Located in Maastricht, The Netherlands, this shop is an absolute must-see if you’re in the country. Housed in a 13th-century gothic church, this fairly new bookstore has so much character you won’t believe.
