On May 4, Anna Wintour hosted a virtual Met Gala to make up for the event being canceled.

Every year, the Met Gala is hosted on the first Monday of May. This year, the event had to be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. It has been “postponed indefinitely” meaning that we could have to wait a whole year for the most extravagant fashion event of the year.

To make up for the event’s absence, Vogue’s Anna Wintour decided to take the event online. She hosted a virtual Met Gala titled A Moment With The Met. The YouTube live stream was packed with star-studded appearances, including a very special performance from Florence Welch of Florence & The Machine.

“Normally on the first Monday in May, I would find myself on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, greeting the guests for the annual Costume Institute Gala,” Wintour said.“This is a time of grief and hardship for millions, and the postponement of a party is nothing in comparison.”

Wintour then explained that Vogue would be making a donation to the Costume Institute and A Common Thread to help the fashion community. She then added: “If we are to come out of this pandemic stronger and more resilient, we must emerge from it connected as never before.”

Florence Welch performed “You’ve Got The Love” by her fireplace and Cardi B then emerged to introduce Louis Vuitton artistic director Virgil Abloh. He performed a DJ set which went down a treat.

The news that the Met Gala has been canceled may be disappointing, but Anna Wintour took the opportunity to bring the fashion world together in celebration anyway.
