Ayurveda is the traditional Hindu system of medicine that strives for balance and equilibrium between the mind, body, and soul. A proper diet, herbal remedies, and breathing exercises are some of the major components of Ayurvedic wellness that, when well managed, can lead you to become a happier, healthier version of yourself.

In terms of drinking water, there’s a lot of differing opinions on how, when, and how much to drink is optimal. According to Ayurveda, keep the following principles in mind in order to maximize the health benefits of H2O:

Lemon Water

Start the day by drinking warm water with lemon.

Avoid ice-cold water

It causes inactivity within your digestive fire.

Drink More Water

Drink consistently throughout the day (approx. one half-one full cup per hour, depending on weather and activity).

Water and Food

Do not drink water too closely before, with, or after meals since it dilutes digestive juices.
