If you haven’t seen Down to Earth on Netflix yet, it’s a must-watch. One of the most interesting things about the show is the presence of Darin Olien, Zac Efron’s nutritionist and overall wellness guru. The two met after Zac heard him on a podcast and was inspired to reach out.

Darin is all about promoting a plant-based diet and has traveled the world in search of the healthiest and most nutrient-rich foods. He’s even written a book called SuperLife which has some awesome tips for healthy living.

When it comes to superfoods, Darin has a few favorites. One of them is the moringa leaf, which he calls a “miracle tree” due to its high concentration of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. He also loves the baobab fruit, which is packed with vitamin C, potassium, and fiber.

But what’s even cooler about Darin is his focus on sustainable and ethical food practices. He encourages viewers to think about where their food comes from and how it’s produced. He even visits small-scale farmers and producers around the world to learn more about their techniques.

Darin brings an amazing wealth of knowledge to Down to Earth, and his passion for nutrition and sustainability is contagious. If you haven’t checked it out yet, do yourself a favor and give it a watch!

Waking up can be hard, so lots of people turn to guide to help boost their mornings. But, many experts say that it’s best to hold off on having caffeine first thing in the morning. So when should you be having your coffee?

Right After Breakfast

When you first wake up, your body gets a boost from the hormone that makes you alert, cortisol. Some scientists think drinking coffee during that boost can create even more cortisol than you need. Or, it can be a waste of caffeine because your body is already waking you up. It’s better to drink after breakfast when you need the boost more.

After Lunch

People often feel a lull in the afternoon, especially if they eat a big lunch. If you’re at work and need a pick-me-up, this can be a good time to have a cup of Joe. The extra boost may also help with concentration, and a nice warm drink is a lovely way to decompress mid-workday.

Before a Workout

To help get psyched up before a workout, many people drink energy drinks or caffeine-induced protein shakes. These can raise energy levels for a higher-intensity workout. But, you don’t need to worry about fancy fitness drinks—coffee will do the job just fine.

We all experience a slump in energy from time to time and that’s totally normal, especially for people who are still working from home. Check out a few effective tricks that will help you boost your energy levels and stay productive during the day.

Give Your Eyes a Break

People who spend hours in front of a computer screen every day tend to be more tired. If this is the case then make sure to take regular breaks and let your eyes relax for a couple of minutes.

Move Around

Going for a brisk 10-minute walk is by far the best way to boost your energy and feel better instantly. That’s why people who work desk jobs should use their breaks to take a short walk outside and breathe in some fresh air.

Exercise

Exercising a few times a week is also a great way to boost your energy levels, but it can also help you sleep better at night and reduce stress.

Avoid Sugar

If you’re one of those people who tend to reach for a candy bar when they need a quick energy boost, then you should definitely stop doing that. Sugar will give you energy for one or two hours, but you’ll feel even more tired when it wears off.

Deciding to eat healthier is a huge lifestyle change and if you’re the only one doing it in your relationship, it can cause tension between you and your partner. Come mealtime, it can be really stressful to eat healthily and to have food that your partner will also want to eat. But it doesn’t have to be a source of stress in your relationship. With these tips, everyone can be satisfied.

Make Healthy Swaps

Instead of using ingredients that have empty calories, substitute them for ones that have vitamins and nutrients. Swaps you can make include replacing red meat with lean protein or using low-fat dairy instead of full-fat.

Boost the Produce

Add more fresh veggies into your diet by having a serving of them on the side of your meals or adding them into the dish. Finish off your meal with something sweet by having a piece of fruit.

Choose Lean Protein

If you love burgers and meatball and spaghetti, you don’t have to eliminate them from your diet. Instead, make them healthier by using poultry or plant-based options.

Play with the Cooking Technique

Frying is super tasty and it makes food crispy, but it’s not the only way to get a crunch. If you can’t say no to fried foods, invest in an air fryer to get the same taste as fried foods, but without the added oil.

Working out on a regular basis is pretty much the key to staying in shape and toning your body. But if you hate exercising or going to the gym, here are a few great ways to tone your body with little or no effort.

Walk Everywhere

Spring is here and that’s the perfect excuse to spend more time outdoors and to walk whenever you can. Don’t drive to the supermarket or the library if you can go there by foot and burn calories along the way.

Exercise Only 15 Minutes Every Day

Short workouts are perfect for busy people or for those who are having a hard time sticking to their workout routine. Some people even claim that short workouts can be more effective than longer ones, so exercising only 15 minutes every day can definitely help you achieve your fitness goals.

Stretch

Doing a short stretching routine every morning is the perfect way to prepare for the day, improve posture and strengthen your entire body.

Mix It Up

Some people have a hard time committing to specific workout routines—and that’s totally fine. Switch up your routine on a regular basis and that way you won’t get bored.

So many of us fail to meet the recommended activity levels on a daily basis, which can lead to many issues connected to a sedentary lifestyle. Check out these three signs that warn you that you may be sitting too much day after day.

You Don’t Move for a Better Part of the Day

Aside from when you’re sleeping, you shouldn’t spend your days not moving or barely moving. Spending over half your waking hours sitting and laying down is too much and you should try and be more active in any way you can.

You Don’t Sleep Well

Getting enough quality sleep is important for your general health, but when you’re inactive during the day going to sleep can become more difficult. Your body needs to get tired so it can rest properly, so any activity can help a lot.

You Feel Stressed and Anxious

Exercise is one of the most efficient ways to feel better. If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, you’ll be more prone to feeling anxious and stressed out. You can do some workouts at home or simply go outside and move your body. Whether you choose walking, biking, or some other activity, you’ll soon notice the improvements in your mental health.

The holidays are one of the hardest times of the year to stick to a healthy lifestyle. Christmas cookies, ham, hot chocolate, donuts, eggnog, and latkes—some of our favorite foods are served during the holidays making it hard to resist temptations. While it’s okay to indulge every once in a while, if you’re trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle, follow these tips.

Be Aware of Portions

We’ve all been there—filled our plate at holiday parties with all of the dishes. Just because you’re eating healthier doesn’t mean you can’t try everything. When you make your plate, for rich foods, keep the portions smaller and load up on vegetables and green salads.

Get Moving

Sticking to a workout routine during the holidays is really difficult, so instead of worrying about it, just move as much as you can. Walk whenever you have the choice between walking and driving.

Stock Your Home With Nutritional Foods

Even though you may not be in control of what you eat outside of your house, you can make better choices while at home. Stock your home with wholesome foods like fruits and veggies, so when you’re stressed you eat those instead of junk food.

Keep Hydrated

It’s common to confused hunger with thirst, so next time you feel hungry, drink a cup of water. To make your water more exciting, add fresh fruit to it.

Make Sleep a Priority

Adults should be getting seven to nine hours a sleep a night. When you don’t sleep enough, the hormones that signal when you’re hungry are negatively affected making you more likely to crave sugary foods and to snack.

Thanks to the internet, the entire world knowledge is available at any moment, and people who are interested in living a healthy lifestyle can easily learn everything about nutrition and exercise. The most basic tips for being healthy include eating healthily, getting plenty of exercise, and getting enough sleep.

But when it comes to getting enough sleep, are we getting too obsessed with it? Is it really necessary to sleep as much as we can and can sleeping too much have the opposite effect of what we want?

The optimal amount of sleep for adults is seven to nine hours per night. Just like the lack of sleep can lead to various physical and mental health problems, similar can happen if you sleep too much. Sleeping for 10 or more hours every day will actually leave you feeling tired, anxious, and forgetful.

Does this mean that you need to stress about the exact amount of sleep you’re getting every night? Not really. You probably have a wake-up schedule already, depending on your daily activities, so all you need to do is adjust the time you go to bed in the evening. Give your body enough time to rest and enjoy the benefits of proper sleep.

The colder months are ahead of us and that means flu season is almost here. With coronavirus still circulating as well, you want to do all you can to protect your body and stay healthy. Here are the best ways to boost your immune system this fall.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CGKo8jsgGiY/

Take Your Vitamins

Not eating right, not sleeping well, and being stressed all come with consequences to your health. It’s important to consume enough vitamins and minerals on a daily basis and the best way to do this is through healthy food, but you can also use supplements.

Vitamin D

One important vitamin people often forget about is Vitamin D. Most of us have a deficiency, especially when we start spending more time inside, and it can lead to various health problems as well as a decline in immunity.

Get Enough Sleep

Never neglect the importance of regular sleep and what it can do for your health. Sleeping well and enough will keep you rested, energized, and overall healthier. Your body can’t function properly without rest so it will prioritize keeping you awake and focused over holding the immunity forts.
