Wear Gloves

In addition to laying down some newspaper or trash bags on your work surface, don’t forget to protect your hands from all of the grossness of pumpkin guts! It’s as easy as wearing a pair of disposable gloves. You’ll be surprised how much smoother the process can be this way.

Cut Off the Bottom

Most people cut off the top of their pumpkin to get inside for scooping purposes. But the real pros know that the best move is to go through the bottom. This way, you’re preserving the stem, which will keep your pumpkin fresh for longer, and you’ll be pulling most of the seeds out of the pumpkin when you remove the bottom. Don’t forget to save the seeds for roasting!

Use a Stencil

While you can totally go freehand on your jack-o-lantern and let yourself get creative, using a stencil is the best way to guarantee a successful result. It also lets you get a little more complicated than just the classic triangle eyes and nose.

This cult classic was first released in 1993, and Halloween would not be complete without a screening of it. It all starts when a young boy named Max lights a cursed candle which gives three witches the power to resurrect themselves in the town of Salem, and mayhem ensues. 

Sleepy Hollow

Another excellent spooky film that came out in the 1990s was Sleepy Hollow. This film is not for the faint of heart. It features Johnny Depp as a Gothic police detective named Ichabod Crane, who is sent to the town of Sleepy Hollow. He has to use his detective skills to find out what the Headless Horseman is up to in this not so sleepy town.

The Craft

Another witchy classic is The Craft. This film features four teenage witches who form a coven and decide to cast spells on their classmates. They start out with good intentions, but the dark magic eventually takes over. What’s really exciting about this film, is that a sequel will be released this year, on October 28th called The Craft: Legacy. A new coven is coming to town.

In the past few weeks, Instagram has been flooded with photos of beauty enthusiasts taking pride in their beautiful nail art made in the holiday spirit. Here are some of our favorites.

Dark Colors

Among other things, you can see the return of extra-long nails, in dark colors like black, gray, and deep purple.

Stickers

In addition, we see a recurring trend of nail decoration by sticking colorful stickers in the holiday spirit, with typical images such as pumpkins, skeletons, stars, ghosts, bats, and candy.

Shapes

Some people dare to take the trend one step further and choose nails that are shaped like cat ears or covered with a furry and velvety layer that gives the look of the nails a special and textural look.

Among these trends, we see a comeback of different nail art methods such as acrylic, silk powder, or a regular classic manicure all staring in the coming season.

Derian joined forces with Target on several occasions in the past, but this will be his first Halloween-themed collection. He was inspired by otherworldly objects and imagery and designed a series of pieces that would perfectly fit in his own home.

“I love Halloween and all of its magic and playfulness. And I love that the collection is not scary-scary, more funny-scary. I have a large archive of images and this gave me the opportunity to use some of the ‘darker’ images in my collection,” said the designer in a press release.

Derian’s Halloween line will be available at Target’s stores and online starting with October 10th. It features a total of around 50 pieces, including lanterns, serving plates and glassware, candy bowls, scented candles, tote bags, towels – and even a 5-foot-tall stuffed skeleton!
