]]>Who doesn’t love a glass of wine after a hard day’s work? But what do you do with the wine bottle when it’s empty? You put it in the trash, of course. But why not save them to paint and use them as vases? We’re sure there has been a time you received flowers and had nowhere to put them. Well, with your beautifully decorated wine bottles you will always have a place.
All you need is a piece of wood and some macrame cord and a drill if you want to secure it to the wall. You can choose any wood you want and color. Make four small holes with a drill on each corner and then thread through the string, connect it to a macrame ring, and then put it onto a hook in the wall. Add some pretty plants or small books.
We all have those CDs sitting in our living room collecting dust, so instead of throwing them away, why not cover them in fabric or paint them and make them coasters for your drinks? Add some stones, make them glossy or matt, whatever your design choice is, make it fun!
What can you do with all that leftover fabric you have from costumes you once made? Why not cover your plant pots with it? All you need is some plain plant pots, fabric, and mod podge and you will have a fantastic fabric-covered plant pot to brighten up your home.

]]>Master crafter Orawee Choedamphai will inspire you to get messy. The owner of online craft shop Squish-n-Chips, her Instagram page is filled to the brim with products designed to get you inspired. From painted paper botanicals to miniature props, and anything in between, Squish-n-Chips is dedicated to small acts of pleasure.
“I’ve been making things since I was a child because my mom was always encouraging us,” shared Choedamphai in an interview with the Etsy blog. “Even if she was just baking, she might give us a little bit of dough so we could make our own version of bread.”
Based in Bangkok, Thailand, she launched her business in July 2012, while living in Oxford, UK, and had worked from her bedroom and garden shed. “Now, I can’t not be making things, so of course,” she says, “I have lots of supplies in my studio, and after a while, I started selling them along with my own designs.”

]]>Recently we’ve been drawn to quilting. A traditional craft, quilting continues to be a popular hobby to this day. Searching for inspiration, we’ve come across Cindy Grisdela. Based in Reston, VA, Grisdela comes from a long line of women who have expressed themselves using a needle and thread.
“Creating with various forms of fabric and thread has been a part of my life since I was a child,” she relayed on her website, explaining that much of what she knows was learned through trial and error. Describing her process as “jazz music,” the art of quilting requires some improvisation.
“Putting colors together intuitively, I like to use fabric the way a painter might use paint to create graphic compositions that engage the viewer from a distance, yet invite a closer look,” notes Grisdela. Scrolling through her work will inspire you to start stitching!

]]>While her Etsy shop sells embroidery patterns and DIY kits, Stiglets also runs her own stitch club where she shares her tips and tricks. “I give notes for each design, including which stitches I used where, so folks can replicate my example photos if they want to—or they can do their own thing,” she relayed in an interview with the Etsy blog.
Each kit includes a pattern that is easy to follow, pre-printed on the fabric itself; as well as fabric, floss, needle, and hoop, which means you’re ready to go. Stiglets also includes a Getting Started Guide, which walks you through setting up your hoop and prepping your embroidery floss.
A self-taught embroiderer herself, Stiglets has a way of breaking down the craft into easy to swallow portions. And with more than 30k fans on Instagram, people are clearly following through. “I encourage you to slow down,” says the master crafter. “Take some time to notice the world around you. Look within and help your mind focus and calm so that you can come from a place of quiet rather than chaos. When your mind is peaceful, your life is richer.”
We’re totally on board!

]]>Well, they’re not what you think—heated blankets. They’re actually a blanket in which you knit or crochet a set number of rows each day and you correspond your yarn color to the temperature it is outside.
You don’t have to be a knitting expert as these blankets are a great way to give knitting or crocheting a shot. They use a basic crochet stitch and you can decide what colors you would like to use in your blanket. Like, for example, you can use light blue for temperatures cooler than 20, green for temperatures in the 30s, and red for temperatures in the 40s.
Typically, people choose blue tones for colder weather and orange or red tones for warmer weather, but you can be as creative as you want! At the end of the year, you’ll have a colorful blanket that tells the temperature story of the year.
You can still get started on your blanket even though we are in February by researching what the temperatures were in January and starting from there.

]]>The American Heart Foundation recently launched Little Hats, Big Hearts, a campaign that provides newborns with red hats to help spread awareness about heart disease and congenital heart defects. To be able to donate to the cause you need to use cotton or acrylic red yarn that’s medium to heavyweight and machine washable.
Karen Loucks started Project Linus, a nonprofit that gives handmade blankets to children in hospitals and shelters throughout the United States. They also have knit and crochet patterns in tons of different sizes that you can choose from.
Maybe you’ve come across scarves wrapped around trees and thought they were there by mistake. Community groups and churches started leaving handmade scarves in public areas with notes attached to help keep homeless people warm during the winter and you can donate scarves to help out this project.
You’ve probably heard that black dogs have difficulty getting adopted and to deal with this issue, volunteers are knitting jumpers, sweaters, and hats to help all dogs find their forever homes. What’s cuter than seeing a dog in one of your creations?
