What is Smudging?

Smudging is the art of burning special types of herbs to absorb their ionic compounds for aromatherapy and other healing benefits. The practice has existed for centuries, most especially in the Americas.

Usually, you purchase herbs like lavender, eucalyptus, rosemary, and Palo Santo wood. Each of the herbs offers different benefits.

Sage and Lavender

Eucalyptus and Palo Santo

Eucalyptus purifies your breathing system and soothes your muscles. It also improves your memory and refreshes you. Palo Santo burns off negative energy. It also means the ‘holy wood’ in some South American countries and is used for cleansing purposes.  Palo Santo is also used to cleanse homes and for aromatherapy reasons.

Rosemary

Rosemary has for long been considered a sacred herb. During smudging, the flowery herb cleanses your gallbladder by killing toxins. It is also used to treat bloat and migraines. Other benefits include refreshing the skin and calming your nerves.

Smudging is an art that involves burning special types of herbs and inhaling the smoke. You can also use oil extracts and apply them on your skin. If you decide to burn lavender, rosemary or any other herb, you’ll want a feather for directing the smoke to your nose. Keep calm. Smudging takes less than thirty minutes but it leaves your healthier, feeling more relaxed and in a better mood.
