Start the New Year by making more space in your home by getting rid of some of the clutter. Knowing where to start might be overwhelming, but why not do just 5 minutes a day? These small tasks will make a difference over time.

Paperwork

Incoming letters and paper are often the cause of clutter. If you are guilty of putting paper all over the house, designate a spot where it will go. When you have time, go through and chuck out the mail that you no longer need.

Surface Cleaning

Leaving surfaces clear will brighten up the environment. Whether it’s kitchen sides or a coffee table, make sure that all your belongings have a place, so you can keep your surfaces clear. If you do not know where to put it, question whether you really need it.

Visualize the Potential

Starting decluttering may seem like an endless task, but you need to think of what the result will be at the end. Try going into the chosen room and imagine what it would look like with less stuff.

Instant Removal

If you succeed in making the time to declutter, make sure you factor in getting rid of the items. Whether recycling or giving to charity, make sure your items reach their new destination. Don’t let stuff build up in the back of your car or corner of the room.

Seasonal Wardrobe

Create some space in your wardrobe by separating seasonal clothes. In winter, pack your summer clothes away. If you haven’t worn something for a while, you don’t need it. Be ruthless and get rid of it.
