Make Your Own Condiments

There is no denying that a great sandwich or backyard bar-b-que cannot be complete without condiments. The problem becomes that the number of sugars, salts, and unnecessarily added ingredients make them very unhealthy. By making them at home, you will not only impress your friends, but you will be able to enjoy these condiments knowing you’re doing your body a little better.

Mayonnaise

Mayo may seem daunting, but making it at home is a breeze and a great base for other condiments! Combine an egg yolk, lemon juice, vinegar, mustard, ½ teaspoon of salt, and whisk or blend until its bright yellow. Slowly add in oil while whisking or blending, and you’ll have fluffy and delicious mayo!

Tartar Sauce

Fried fish just tastes better with tartar sauce. However, the stuff in the jar does not give it justice. Instead, use the mayonnaise recipe above, add onions and dill pickles, and you have yourself a gourmet tartar sauce.

Hot Sauce

Hot sauce can be the kick so many dishes desperately need, but adds so much salt and additives that nobody wants. Luckily, making it at home is really a snap. Simply combine hot peppers, vinegar, garlic, and salt into a pot, cook, and blend! This recipe is so easy and low cost, you’ll be making it for all your backyard parties.
