With solid performances in the shortened 2020 MLB season, lefty pitcher Martin Perez earned himself a new deal with the Boston Red Sox.

According to multiple reports, Perez agreed to a one-year contract with the Red Sox that will pay him up to $5 million in 2021. The deal also has a team option for 2022 worth $6 million.

Perez confirmed the news on Sunday on his social media.

In 2020, Perez started 12 games for the Red Sox and managed to compile a 3–5 record. He had 4.50 ERA and 46 strikeouts, while also his 4.1 walks per nine innings pitched led the AL.

By bringing back Perez, Red Sox add a reliable arm to their rotation that struggled with injuries in 2020. This, however, doesn’t exclude them from making more additions as they have been linked with moves for free agents like Garrett Richards and Jake Odorizzi.

Martin Perez played most of his MLB career with the Texas Rangers, where he made 128 starts in seven years. He also spent one year with Minnesota Twins before landing in Boston.

Perez’s career stats include a 56-61 record, 4.71 ERA, and 643 strikeouts.
