International Etiquette Rules Every Traveler Should Know

If you travel to different places in the world, you might find that the etiquette in that country is completely different then what you’re used to. Follow these tips to make sure you always stay polite and respectful when you’re abroad.

Japan and Korea

While you might be used to filling up your own glass at a dinner, if you are in Japan or Korea and out with locals, that is not the way to go. Instead, fill the person’s glass who is sitting next to you and then they will reciprocate.

Middle East

When you are traveling throughout the Middle East, with a few exceptions, know that you will have to cover up. Even though it gets hot there, it is traditional to wear clothes that at least cover your knees, and some historic or ancient sites will not admit you if you are not dressed modestly. The best way to do that is with light fabrics like linen and cotton.

Africa

In most countries in Africa, people eat with their hands. In order to stay respectful, you should do the same. But, make sure you are only eating with your right hand and wash your hands before and after the meal.
