Switching up your hair color is an enticing prospect as summer draws in. As much as we love sunny days, the sun can wreak havoc on your new do. Here are some tips for keeping your color fresh as long as possible.
Wear a Hat
Starting with the obvious, we recommend wearing a hat when it’s particularly hot outside. If you’re going to be lounging in the park all day, it’s best to keep your hair covered as much as possible.
Wash it Less Regularly
When it’s hot, it’s tempting to wash your hair more, but you should try your best to wash it less. Every time you wash your hair with warm water, the color fades ever so slightly. If you can’t stick to twice a week, try alternating days and use cool water when you can.
Deep Condition
When the sun’s out, your hair needs a little extra love than usual. Treat your hair to a deep condition to give some life to those dry ends.
Use Heat Protection Spray
If you can’t skip the flat iron, make sure you use a heat protection spray. It’s best to minimize any extra damage to your hair and go without the hot iron when you can.
