How to Lighten your Hair Naturally

Have you often wondered what you would look like with blonde hair but after going to the hairdresser realized it has gone horribly wrong? The best advice would be, before you commit to going full blonde,  start with some natural-looking highlights, balayage. Then, if you decide that this isn’t light enough, you can bleach by a professional, of course. If you don’t have the money at the moment to go lighter then try these natural remedies to lift your natural color and make it look a little brighter.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Most hair dyes actually include apple cider vinegar as it’s filled with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It removes product build-up and excess oil from your scalp. The best part is it can also help to lighten your hair and show off your natural highlights.

Fill a bottle with equal parts apple cider vinegar and water and leave to sit on your hair for a few minutes and rinse out. Do this twice a week over a month and you will see the difference.

Lemon Juice

If you are already blonde then lemons are a great way to help you go a little lighter. Use in small doses and mix it in with your conditioner so it won’t dry out your hair and scalp.

Lemon oil is indeed one of the most “essential” oils to have on hand, as it can used for so many purposes, from a natural teeth whitener, household cleaner and laundry freshener, to a mood booster and nausea reliever. 1. Relieves Nausea:If you are looking for a way to get rid of nausea, especially if you are pregnant and experiencing morning sickness, lemon essential oil serves as a natural and effective remedy. 2. Nourishes Skin:Lemon essential oil benefits your skin by reducing acne, nourishing damaged skin and hydrating the skin. Lab studies show that lemon oil is able to reduce cell and tissue damage in the skin that’s caused by free radicals. This is due to lemon oil’s strong antioxidant activity and anti-aging effects. 3. Relieves Cough and Stimulates Lymphatic Drainage: Lemon oil has antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, so it helps to boost your immune system and fight respiratory conditions. It also serves as one of the top essential oils for allergies. Lemon essential oil also stimulates lymphatic drainage, thereby reducing the accumulation of fluids that can cause you to cough. Lemon oil can cause skin irritations in some people, so do a patch test on your arm or leg before using it topically just to be sure that you won’t have an adverse reaction. When using lemon oil on my skin, I like to dilute it with a carrier oil, like coconut oil or jojoba oil, especially on sensitive areas like my face.
