When you’re chopping your fruits and vegetables, it’s important that you’re working on the right cutting board. Your cutting board should be easy to clean and store and last you a while. Ones that warp over time, are dangerous because you’ll be cutting on uneven surfaces. Here are some tips for selecting the perfect cutting board for all your kitchen needs.

Stock a Few

You should have a few cutting boards for different foods like fruits and vegetables, raw meat, poultry, or fish, and cooked meats. It’s also good to have a few wooden boards and some synthetics that can be easily thrown in the dishwasher for cleaning.

Long-Lasting Wood

Wooden cutting boards are great for slicing roasted chicken, rack of lamb, skirt steaks, or charcuterie. Invest in a good one because if you take care of it, it can last a while.

Synthetics

For day-to-day tasks, use synthetic boards because they can be easily cleaned. When the boards have deep cuts, it’s time to replace them as you want to avoid bacteria from getting into the cuts.

What to Avoid

Stay clear of glass, marble, and stone as they will damage your knives. Also, avoid silicon because foods stick to it easily and it makes the board difficult to clean.
