It used to be that women were the only ones that could have fun with beauty and makeup products, but celebrity men have been making a statement with their nail art. The newest trend in men’s beauty has been seen on Harry Styles, ASAP Rocky, Marc Jabos, Jonathan Van Ness, and Travis Scott.
The trend was once popular among rockers David Bowie and Kurt Cobain, but recently rappers and celebrity men have been taking nail polish from grungy to artsy with cool patterns and designs.
Nail artist Mei Kawahriri, founder of Nail by Mei, has worked with rappers ASAP Rocky and Travis Scott and she said that Scott was initially reluctant to give nail art a try, but the two agreed upon old English lettering to spell out his name on each nail.
Kawahriri also said that ASAP Rocky reached out to her via Instagram asking for his very own manicure and that he was a huge fan of hers. She painted a Frankenstein and Denis Rodman design for him backstage at Madison Square Garden to match his green hair.
Another celebrity nail artist, Britney Tokyo, is known for her work with Harry Styles. She’s been doing the singer’s nails since 2016 and she said, “I get creative keywords and color palettes from him [Harry Styles],” says Tokyo. “And he tells me to do whatever I want, like I could do Japanese Omakase style.”
