York already has plenty of experience playing with the United States at the international level, having won three medals with U-17 and U-18 teams. The 19-year-old player also played at the 2020 World Junior Championship, but his team didn’t manage to make it past the quarterfinals.

York, who was Flyers’ No.14 pick in 2019, has two goals and three assists in eight games with the University of Michigan this season. He had 16 points (five goals and 11 assists) in 2019/20 as a freshman.

“It’s a huge honor for myself, and it’s something that I definitely don’t take lightly,” said York after learning the news. “But at the end of the day there’s a room full of leaders in that locker room, and it’s going to take everybody if we want to be successful and win a gold medal.”

The 2021 World Junior Championship WJC is being played in Edmonton, Canada, from December 25th to January 5th, 2021. Team USA is in Group A alongside Russia, Austria, Czech Republic, and Sweden.
