Dinner’s ready…but the table’s not

Having a couple of friends or family over for dinner is always fun, but a badly set table can easily dampen the mood, especially I feel cramped for space. There are, however, a couple of things that you can do make sure the party runs smoothly.

Don’t overcrowd a table unnecessarily with cutlery and crockery

Your table can only fit so much, no matter how much you try and move stuff around, the table will not increase in size. In this case, less is more.

Plan your utensils according to your meal

You don’t want to make a rookie mistake and serve a steak dinner with only butter knives. Check your menu beforehand and make sure you have everything you need.

An obtrusive centerpiece can become an eyesore

Do not restrict the view of your guests by adding obstructive objects on the table. If you can’t see each other, what is the point of the party?

Before your guests arrive, sit down and have a feel for yourself.

Protect your table against the inevitable spills and scratches

There are few things that will dampen the mood of a good evening than the thought of a ruined table.

Go easy on the flowers

You don’t want their fragrance to overpower that of the meal you are serving.
