How to Create Zero Waste

Zero waste is a school of thought that believes that eventually, people will be able to reuse all their waste and have none to dispose of.

This concept is still not realistic practically as things stand now, but there is much that we can do to bring our waste quota down as close to zero as possible. Undertaking the waste-free journey will challenge households, but it is good to make a start now because a great number of cities aim to be waste-free in future.

  1. Reduce paper in the form of junk mail. Contact the vendor and get yourself removed from their mailing list.
  2. Totally ban ‘one-use’ plastics from your home.
  3. Buy items in bulk (one large container instead of a few smaller ones).
  4. Waste that makes its way into the house despite your best intentions can be reused.
  5. Create a compost area for all your food waste. This can be used to help grow your own food supply.
  6. Sell, donate, or trade items you no longer need so that they don’t wind up adding to your waste quota.
