Have you ever turned a street corner and stumbled upon a mural so captivating it stopped you in your tracks? That’s the magic of street art! Unlike the art tucked away in museums, street art plays by its own rules. Let’s take a look at what makes it so special.

Accessibility: Art for All

One of the most striking aspects of street art is its inherent accessibility. Unlike artworks confined within the hallowed halls of galleries and museums, street art is available to anyone who passes by. Street art turns city walls, bridges, and buildings into canvases, transforming urban landscapes into vibrant, thought-provoking galleries.

Transience: The Beauty of Impermanence

Another unique characteristic of street art is its transient nature. While traditional artworks are preserved for generations, street art is constantly changing and often temporary. This impermanence adds a layer of urgency and appreciation. To view it is to catch a moment in time that might soon be gone.

Democratization of Artistic Expression

Finally, street art fundamentally democratizes the process of artistic expression. Without the need for gallery representation or the approval of art critics, street artists can freely share their work and messages with the public. This openness fosters a diverse range of voices and perspectives, enriching the cultural landscape.

If you’re someone who considers themselves to be creative, then perhaps you know a thing or two about letting your muse guide you. There’s nothing better than allowing the creative spirit to flow through you as you hone your craft and work on whatever masterpiece you’re working on. But here’s the thing: it’s not just about creativity—and here’s why.

Technique Lays the Foundation

Many people in the creative field believe that passion and creativity is all you need, but this is so far from the case. In order to have a creative ground to walk on, you must have the technique to back it up. In order to compose a song, you have to be able to play an instrument. In order to paint a beautiful masterpiece, you have to be able to… well, paint.

Losing Sight

For some reason, many seem to associate technique with being robotic and cold. To be fair, it’s true that technique without passion can result in advanced, yet soulless work. However, that doesn’t mean you’re supposed to neglect the importance of technical skill as a result. The importance is to work on both, and find a way to seamlessly blend the two as one.

As the “everything is cake” trend takes the world by storm, Heather Rios is inviting you to the world where nothing is. This embroidery artist specializes in stitching together incredibly realistic embroidery cakes that look just as tasty as the real thing.

According to her Instagram page, Rios started making her embroidery cakes in 2018. Her creations are as colorful and cheerful as it gets, but the story behind them isn’t as fun and offbeat.

“I started making these colorful embroideries because well…my life was going terribly and I was just trying to cheer myself up by making the most colorful, happy things I could think of,” she explained in an Instagram post.

Rios used her embroidery cakes to cheer herself up, and they now have the same effect on everyone that comes across them. She has taken the concept of food art to a whole new level by creating cakes that look so remarkably realistic that you’ll have to wonder whether they’re actually made of fabric and thread.

The realistic look isn’t the only thing you’ll find appealing about Rios’ creations. She mostly focuses on stitching together funfetti cakes that are bursting with color and have the power to put a smile on your face.

The “is it cake?” trend inspired the rise of realistic food art, and Christina Kunanets decided to embrace it in her own way. She became a true Instagram sensation thanks to her incredibly realistic paintings of our favorite comfort foods.

Since starting her Instagram page @u.wanna.art in late 2020, Kunanets attracted over 140,000 followers, and she deserves all the attention coming her way. The rise of Instagram Reels helped her find viral fame because these brief videos managed to fully capture her step-to-step process.

Kunanets’ viral videos usually see her applying a thick layer of paint on canvas, and their color and texture make them seem just like real food. She mostly focuses on painting comfort foods we all know and love, such as donuts, waffles, pies, croissants, and everything in between.

Kunanets didn’t opt to focus on food paintings simply because they look good. Whether it’s a croissant from your first trip to Paris or a cocktail that you enjoyed drinking with a close friend, she’s a huge believer that food has the power to take us back to important moments in our past.

“Every simple thing, at first sight, carries information, association, memories, and a moment of ‘deja vu’. That’s why I draw simple things in these pictures – which you fill with your personal emotions!” she explains on her Etsy page.

Stamp collecting used to be all the rage back in the day. Perhaps an older relative of yours has an impressive stamp collection, and now it’s stored away in a dusty box in the attic. Making a collage is a great way to repurpose these old stamps and showcase their beautiful designs.

Go for the same theme

One way to create a stamp collage is to find stamps that have the same theme—it could be butterflies, flowers, birds, or whatever else you like. Then stick them on a canvas, and you have a gorgeous piece of art.

Go for the same color

Another option is to select stamps that are in the same or similar colors to one another to create a tonal piece. An advantage of going for a monochromatic design is that it will look really visually striking on your wall from a distance. You can also have fun cutting your collage into different shapes and setting it against a colorful background.

Create a design

The sky is the limit when it comes to the designs you can create with postage stamps. For those more experienced artists, why not let your mind run free and try an elaborate design?

Most artists are using hands as a tool in their work, but Golsa Golchini took things up a notch and decided to use them as a canvas, as well. She became a true social media sensation thanks to creating whimsical, miniature paintings on her hands and fingers.

Golchini is currently based in Milan, Italy, but she spent most of her life in Tehran, Iran. Her art took many different shapes and forms over the years, but her viral hand paintings are one of the reasons why she has over 110,000 Instagram followers right now.

Golchini’s creations may seem unorthodox because she doesn’t use traditional canvas, but she’s actually inspired by everyday life and trying to craft artworks that resonate with everyone willing to open up their heart.

“I love to combine all that I have ever learnt during my journey and to serve it on a silver plate to the observer… I believe the era of ‘complicated’ artworks has come to an end and our century is in true need of simplicity and joy,” writes Golchini on her official website.

Golchini enjoys experimenting with different visual art languages, but her hand paintings are our absolute favorite. She enjoys exploring scenes inspired by the seaside and sailing, but no subject is off-limits for this creative artist.

Most embroidery artists craft their amazing creations using thread, but not Olga Prinku. She believes that nature is the best possible thread out there, and her embroidery hoops are decorated with flowers and plants instead.

Prinku is based in North Yorkshire, and she’s a graphic designer by profession. She’s always been passionate about crafting, especially knitting and wreath-making, and her love for flowers-on-tulle embroidery grew out of these hobbies.

“My favorite part of this new craft is the scope to be inventive. I love coming up with new ideas for ways to experiment with the technique or apply it to other kinds of artwork or product,” explains Prinku on her official website.

Prinku went on quite a journey since first trying to poke the stems of flowers through net fabric in 2016. In addition to becoming a true Instagram sensation, with almost 200,000 followers under her belt, she also hosted several exhibitions, collaborated with fashion and homeware brands, and published a book called Dried Flower Embroidery: An introduction to the art of flowers on tulle.

Prinku is also committed to teaching others the secrets of her craft. She sells DIY kits that allow you to replicate her creations, and you can also find tutorials and book workshops on her official website.

Back in the day, you had to get out of the house and pay money to gain access to cutting-edge art.
