How to Avoid the ‘Wrinkled Look’

Very few people find ironing a stimulating task that they look forward to. But if you do not take the proper measures to prevent your clothes from wrinkling unnecessarily, you’ll find yourself spending ‘quality time’ behind an ironing board.

Separate

We know to separate light and dark clothes when we do laundry. But sort your loads according to the fabric content and weight as well as by color. Don’t wash lightweight fabrics with heavy denim.

Dry

Know how your dryer works and what cycles it runs. Some cycles are ideal for heavy fabrics. If you put lightweight fabrics in for these cycles, they will wrinkle. Unload your dryer carefully. Fold the clothes correctly as you unload to avoid wrinkling.

Breathe

Give the folded clothes time to ‘breathe’ when they come out of the dryer. Don’t immediately cram them into your closet. If the fabric fibers are still warm when the clothes are squashed into a drawer, they will wrinkle.

If it happens …

If your clothes are wrinkled despite your best efforts or after traveling in a bag, steam them in a hot shower or buy a reputable wrinkle remover.
