Something that people who don’t skateboard don’t often know is that style is seriously important in skateboarding, both in how you execute your tricks and also when it comes to fashion. Maybe that’s why skateboard style has fully infiltrated mainstream society, with the sporty, effortlessly cool look that people covet. If you’re into it, here are some key items that will help you get the look.

Skate Shoes

You want to start building your skater girl wardrobe from the ground up—literally. Maybe the most important part of a skateboard wardrobe is the shoes. Lots of different companies make skateboarding shoes, but Vans are a classic choice.

Hat

Whether it’s a beanie, a bucket hat, or a baseball cap, a hat is a critical part of skater girl fashion.

Hoodie

Skate fashion is about comfort and there is no piece of clothing more comfy than the hoodie. Bonus skate points if you choose one with a skateboard company logo on it.

Loose Pants

When it comes to skate style, baggy and loose is the way to go. A pair of cargo pants or Dickies you can move around in will make you look like a full-on skater.

Are you curious about what you can do to be happier? Well, you’re not the only one. In fact, there’s an entire subfield of psychology that specifically studies human happiness. It’s called positive psychology and it has quite a few insights to offer about what we can do as individuals to be happier.

Take Care of Your Health

The studies don’t lie: people who have better health—get better sleep and exercise more—are also happier. So as lame as it may sound if you’re not sleeping and exercising enough, try starting there. You might be surprised how much of an impact it makes.

Meditate

Another thing you can do that will make a huge impact on your happiness is meditation. By teaching you to focus on the present moment instead of worrying about the future or obsessing over the past, meditation is a great tool for improving happiness.

Gratitude

One common fallacy we humans make is believing that we’ll be happy if we just obtain that thing we want: the job, the promotion, the partner, the salary, etc. But the truth is that as long as we’re always focused on getting the next thing, we’ll never be happy. What will really make us happy is being grateful for what we already have.

If you’re a fan of tattoos and piercings, then you’ll find that summer is a challenging time. While there’s no better season to show off your ink and hardware, summer is also the worst possible time to get a new body mod. Here’s an explanation as to why.

First, new tattoos are very sensitive to the sun, which means you have to be able to completely avoid the sun if you get one on a visible part of your body. When they’re healing, you also can’t put sunscreen on them, so the only option is total avoidance, which is pretty dang hard in the sunny summer.

Beyond that, new tattoos and piercings have to be kept out of water – swimming pools, oceans, seas, etc. – until they’re completely healed. For tattoos, that’ll take around two to four weeks, which isn’t that bad, but with piercings, that healing time is much longer: from three months on the low side up to a full year.

So unless you’re okay with missing out on all water activities during your summer, it’s best to abstain from getting tattoos and piercings in the summertime, as hard as it is.

But on the plus side? This forces you to wait on your new tattoo and piercing ideas, meaning that by the time you get around to actually doing them, you can feel more confident that you really want them.

If you love makeup and experimenting with different looks—and also wear glasses—you probably know how disappointing it can be when you craft a beautiful eyeshadow look and then just cover it up with your glasses. But there are actually ways you can do your makeup that will look even better once you put your glasses on. Here are some tips.

Balance Your Frames

One of the main things to think about is how to balance out the look of your glasses frames with your eye makeup. If your glasses are colorful, go for a neutral eye. If they’re bold, try a more minimal eye look. If they’re clear and barely noticeable, you can go more dramatic. Get the idea?

Curl Your Lashes

It’s always annoying when you get mascara on your lenses because your eyelashes brush up against your glasses. If you want to avoid this, curl your lashes. This will also help open up your eyes visually.

Have Fun With Lip Colors

While glasses might clash with crazy eye shadow looks sometimes, they pair really nicely with fun, exciting lip colors. So play around with different colors, mixing and matching with the tones in your glasses frames.

If you like to celebrate pride by wearing your rainbow heart on your sleeve, you might be inspired to dye your hair rainbow, too, when you see these examples.

Just a Hint

A combination of bright, stop sign red and jewel-toned vertical rainbow, this hair color shows just a peek of rainbow that can be hidden. Can you call it subtle? Maybe not, but you can call it cool as heck.

On the Bottom

One of the more interesting patterns of rainbow hair out there, this chevron rainbow on the bottom 2/3 of the hair is definitely a classy version of rainbow hair that you can show off or keep hidden to your liking.

Subtle

The most subtle of all of the rainbow hair on this list, this unicorn, iridescent, holographic rainbow highlight on silver hair is to dye for (get it?). Okay, corny jokes outside, this hair color might not read as rainbow from afar, but it’ll definitely make you gasp from up close with how stunning it is.

But one of the most exciting parts of being a Brie Larson fan is retroactively discovering all of the amazing things she did in her youth as a child star, such as playing a mean girl in Sleepover and 13 Going on 30 and starring in the Disney Channel Original Movie Right on Track.

But perhaps most thrilling of all is when you get to discover Brie’s pre-teen music career a la Hilary Duff or Avril Lavigne. That’s right, as a young Disney Kid, Brie, too, released edgy, kid-relatable music. In fact, her album was called Finally Out of P.E. and – honestly? – it still slaps.

There are a lot of things that we do to be responsible. Wear sunscreen to the beach; use a reusable water bottle instead of buying one-time plastic ones; use the buddy system at concerts; wear seatbelts in the car.

But there’s one type of safety that many of us tend to overlook, and it’s a real shame. We’re talking about first aid. Unfortunately, accidents and health issues happen all the time, but we’re rarely prepared. Few people keep a first aid kit around and even fewer would know what to do with one if the situation came up.

But the truth is that if you play a sport, go to the gym, do active outdoor activities like hiking and swimming, or simply exist in the world, you are liable for all sorts of accidents all the time, ranging from scrapes and bruises to more serious bone breaks and allergic reactions.

So if you’re prepared for something like getting your period in class or at work, shouldn’t you be prepared if somebody near you starts choking or falls during a hike? We certainly think so. That’s why it’s so worth it to go to a first aid class. It’s a few hours out of your life but it may save somebody else’s.

It’s pride month! If you’re a part of the LGBTQ+ community—or just a really good ally—you’re probably looking forward to a month filled with celebration, fun, and freedom. Naturally, partying and watching or marching in a pride parade are obvious choices for ways to celebrate this June, but if you’re also looking for something else to do that doesn’t involve sweating, here are three movies we recommend checking out.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire

This period piece about a woman hired to paint the portrait of an engaged aristocrat who she inevitably falls in love with is lesbian film perfection. With plenty of big dresses, longing gazes, and burning attraction, its tension will hook you.

Paris is Burning

Chances are that if you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community, the catchphrases you’re using originate from the New York ballroom scene of the 1980s. If you haven’t already seen this movie, check it out and find out some history.

But I’m a Cheerleader

If you want to go for a comedy instead of something serious, But I’m a Cheerleader is a classic of the genre, taking place in a gay conversion camp and starring Natasha Lyonne.

Shag haircuts have been all the range in the past year or so. If you’re on TikTok, chances are pretty high that you’ve seen at least one if not 100 videos of girls giving themselves a shag. And while it may seem like it’s an easy cut to do on yourself, requiring minimal precision and giving you lots of freedom to snip away at random, if you actually want your shag haircut to look good—and to do it yourself—it’s probably best to actually do some research first about which techniques to use.

Thankfully, that’s where everybody’s favorite internet hairstylist, Brad Mondo, comes in with his recent video, Hairdressers Guide To Cutting A Shag/ Layers And Not Ruining Your Hair. The point of the video is to help you get your own chic, trendy shag haircut for free and also without making a big mistake.

Brad’s shag haircut secrets include starting by cutting all of your hair in a ponytail on the top of your head, sectioning your hair into four sections, over-directing the hair while you cut it again, and thinning out any chunky pieces. If you’re curious about how a shag will look on you, definitely watch this video before you give yourself one.

June is here which means that pride month has arrived! All around the world, there are going to be pride celebrations, which is all the more exciting considering there couldn’t be any last year. So if you’re going to attend a pride parade this year, here are some tips for how you can stay safe and have fun.

Wear Sunscreen and Drink Water

At least in the Northern hemisphere, June is a pretty hot month, and it’s much hotter if you’re out in the sun all afternoon. Take care of yourself by drinking plenty of water and—especially if you’re planning to have lots of skin exposed—wear sunscreen.

Use the Buddy System

Pride is known for being incredibly crowded, making it easy to lose your friends, especially if you’re all drinking and running around. So make sure that wherever you go, you bring a buddy along with you so that you don’t find yourself alone and lost.

Keep Your Stuff (And Hands) to Yourself

It’s a good thing fanny packs are so stylish this year because they’re also a great way to keep your belongings safe in a huge crowd by keeping them close to your body. You never know who will be in a big group like a pride parade, so keep an eye out.

And, no less importantly, make sure to respect the belongings and personal space of everybody else around you.
