Most travelers are fully aware of what they shouldn’t pack in their carry-on, but what about things you should never put inside your checked bag? The list is much longer than you’ve probably expected, and it includes many valuable items—starting with these five.

Cash and Credit Cards

It’s always a good idea not to put things you don’t want lost or stolen in your checked bag, and cash and credit cards certainly fall under this category.

Electronics

From phones and laptops to cameras and chargers, your electronics should travel with you. They usually come with a high price tag, so you shouldn’t pack them in your checked bag even if it’s allowed.

Medication

Meds aren’t as expensive as electronics and they can safely travel inside a checked bag, but it’s best to keep them with you in case your luggage gets lost.

Important Documents

Carrying your ID and passport with you is a no-brainer, but the same rule applies to your travel itinerary and all other important documents that you might be traveling with.

All Your Clothes

The list of valuable items you shouldn’t pack in your checked bag is pretty long, but how about your clothes? You should consider packing at least one outfit and some underwear in your carry-on in case your luggage gets lost en route.
