The Met Gala returned to New York City this Monday night, and the stars in attendance welcomed this year’s dress code with open arms. “The Garden of Time” proved to be a pretty great theme and inspired many amazing red carpet looks, starting with these.

Gigi Hadid in Thom Browne

Thom Browne gave us some of Met Gala’s best looks this year, including Gigi Hadid’s white gown, embellished with rose appliques and two million white micro beads.

Zendaya in Maison Margiela/Givenchy

Zendaya’s Met Gala looks are a gift that keeps on giving and she embraced this year’s theme with two whimsical dresses with a gothic twist, including a custom Maison Margiela siren dress and a vintage Givenchy gown.

Tyla in Balmain

Instead of hitting the red carpet in floral dresses, several stars decided to play with the concept of time, including Tyla. Her show-stopping Balmain gown evokes the sands of time, and pairing it with an hourglass clutch was a stroke of genius.

Janelle Monáe in Vera Wang

Janelle Monáe always finds a way to put an avant-garde twist on the Met Gala theme, and she did it again this year. Her sheer halter gown by Vera Wang looks pretty random at first, but it’s actually decorated with 3D florals shaped from recycled plastic bottles.
